So i made a facebook status about this. In one of my classes there's this pretty cute/hot girl in one of my classes (she has a nice rack ). One day when leaving class I see her walk to some hidden place behind a tree and she busts out a cigarette and instantly, her level of attractiveness went down quite a bit.


A lot of my friends are just like me in that we find girls that smoke quite a bit of a turn off, but now I want to ask you guys what you all think. Pick the answer choice that most resembles how you probably would react.

Smoking cigarettes is gross, but generally not a deal breaker. I would date someone who smoked, but not marry.

It's not that big a deal, but I hang out with mostly drug addicts and stuff.

I don't respect people who smoke as much as non-smokers. I don't think I could date someone who smokes, unless their pros outweighed their cons.

I can't even stand the smell of smoke, and if I can smell it on someone, my level of respect for the instantly drops like a rock. The smell makes me want to gag. I don't see how I could spend much time with anyone who smoked regularly. My brother used to, and I could hardly stand to be in the same room because he smelled so bad.

Cigarettes = natural selection at work.

It's a complete joke to me; makes them instantly unacceptable.

Nothing wrong. Hot or not, it's their lungs. I'd just work around their habit if I wanted tits badly enough.

Smoke and the smell of smoke really bother me. I can get past it, though, as long as the person respects that others don't want to smell their smoke. However, in the context of an attractive person, it wouldn't change anything much ... but if I wanted to get involved with said person at all, I would probably offer to help her quit.

... Though, now that I'm actually thinking about it, women who smoke would be less attractive. Especially so if I am ever to associate that smell with them. :X It also depends slightly on usage.

Everyone smokes where I'm from, so I just got used to it. I don't smoke, myself, but I wouldn't care if someone I was attracted to did.

Its funny how adamantly opposed to cigarettes certain people have become after the advent of anti-cigarette brainwashing in mainstream media. Not meaning to single people in this thread out (OR AM I!?!?!??!) but just a general trend I've noticed. People smoked for hundreds of years and now all of a sudden people start freaking out about it. We've known since the 70's or so that its bad for you? For me, depends on how much they smoke. When I drink I've been known to smoke a cigarette or two, but I don't smoke otherwise. I think someone who smokes a pack a day or so is a turn-off.

I understand that a lot of the time smoking has nothing to do with a person's disposition. In fact, I often sympathize with smokers, as many of them struggle to quit smoking while facing social rejection.

But honestly, I can't stand smoking one bit. I once raged inside a restaurant in HK b/c several d-bags were smoking when there were no smoking signs on every single table.. and the employees did nothing.

On a girl, it really turns me off. Even if it has nothing to do with the girl's personalities, it still means there'd be problems... and anyway, I hate smoke.

So no. No one'd be attractive enough to waste my precious lungs.

If I were to make a move on said girl who smokes, I'd ween her out of smoking and be like "smoke this instead" then make out with her. and subsequently brush my teeth thoroughly and use mouth wash immediately afterwards

Just out of curiosity, why did you include two "I don't mind" options? You should have kept one "doesn't matter" and a more extreme affirmation "I become even more aroused."

Anyway, if you're hesitant to kiss her (because of the smell/taste of cigarettes), then you couldn't possibly find her on the same level of attractiveness. Unless, of course, you just mean eye candy (and still, smoking tends to increase wrinkles and discolor teeth, which isn't very sightly). Even then, how I view her would be changed knowing she smokes in a negative way.

Assuming pure eye candy and I found her hot before I saw her smoking, it wouldn't change anything. Assuming anything further, yes, there's deprecation.

I would think "Oh, they smoke".

It would only affect my views of them negatively if I was considering them as long-term relationship material. In terms of short term effects, I actually find it can be a turn on.
