Sand Wraith -- jjf28
jjf28 shouted: Sand Wraith "homophobia" we should deprecate that word btw, somehow a "phobia" became strongly associated with "hate" and it's a serious English crime :P
It's something I've definitely considered. The one theory I know of in explanation of that is that ultimately, the "phobia" is of what reality will look like when gay people aren't consistently marginalized.
[11:07 pm]
Roy -- The secondary definition for phobia is a strong dislike or aversion.
[11:06 pm]
Generalpie -- Indeed

jjf28 -- Sand Wraith
Sand Wraith shouted: I don't mean to disagree that this "should" or "shouldn't" be the case, just that I'm not talking about this "should" or "shouldn't." I'm just saying that what happens, repeatedly, very often, queer people end up replicating homophobia or transphobia.

Sand Wraith -- So even if you decide to say something like "person P is simply oversensitive", that doesn't really say anything about what is to be done, or whether if there is a course of action, whether it is effective let alone possible.

Sand Wraith -- Dem0n
Dem0n shouted: It's probably healthier to just do you and not worry about what others are doing
Roy
Roy shouted: Sounds like something a privileged person would say.
this isn't false. I would say I probably agree. However, besides the fact that not everyone is raised to be selfish, there is still the question of whether some people are simply more predisposed to making decisions while using social cues as a source of information.
[11:03 pm]
Roy -- Hey man, I don't do that. Do I? Maybe in jest. In any case, I don't really care if you post homework questions here.
[11:02 pm]
Dem0n -- Roy
Roy shouted: Sounds like something a privileged person would say.
people bitch to me for asking like homework questions here, but 10 pages of nonstop ranting about shit that nobody cares about is fine

jjf28 -- so there's still a problem, don't see where we're disagreeing here
