I know, I know, this question's probably been asked a million times already but I couldn't find it through the threads. I recently started play SC again after 3 years of "abstinence" lol, I remember I used to use a damn good map editor but I can't remember the name, so please tell me which ones are the best map editors at the moment, thnx.

BTW, you could just show me a link to a previous thread with the same question.

SCMDraft 2.0

IMO the best and most practical one out there

The sword and the faith

SCMDraft.

People will come in here saying 'NO STARFORGE IZ BEST' 'NO SCXTRA IZ'.

These people are WRONG. Only a fool would listen to them.

There are only three main editors, SCM Draft is the best out of those, I guess FartyEdit is worth mentioning, but compared to SCM Draft it's crap.

Technically there's four. The last one being the generic campaign editor :P

Thanx everyone, if I could just remember which one I used to use... but now I'll have to try them all again, cheers.

I personally use two different version depending on what I want done. I do terrain in the newest version, but when it comes to laying units/sprites, I use an older version that properly renders them.

Honestly, I tend to use the campaign editor for most of my map making :P

ᴄʜᴇᴇsᴇ ɪᴛ!

Staredit: Loading Triggers, Ensure map compatibility
Fartyedit: Loading Triggers, Modded Staredit to include much more.
Xtra Editor: Loading Triggers (? I haven't used in forever, so idunno), Modded Staredit, like fartyedit, but no perfect stack.
Starforge: Autocomplete text triggers, numeric (supports negative numbers, numeric player ids etc...) triggers/sprites, very fast to make triggers, square terrain. Known to be buggy and can corrupt the ISOM section of map.
SCMDraft: Classic and Full text trigedit, square terrain, limited numeric triggers, recycles strings. Somewhat buggy.

A lot of these do the same thing. There's really only 3 editors, since two are mods of staredit. I use SCMDraft due to it's greater terrain support and the ability to search through triggers.

And no sprites, and crap is in different programs, FartyEdit is much better than X-tra.

SCMDraft has copy/paste. GG.

Starforge is still the fastest by a considerable margin when writing triggers from scratch. These days you need SCMDraft though.

Wasn't this topic solved days ago? And by days I mean day... Lock it!

And SCMDraft 2 wins.

We can't explain the universe, just describe it; and we don't know whether our theories are true, we just know they're not wrong. >Harald Lesch

I left it open because I wanted to give the chance for some people to name advantages/disadvantages of certain editors. As we all know ScmDraft 2 is the best overall editor, but specialized editors surpass is in certain areas.
For example X-tra editor is the only advanced editor available in german. ;)

But it's just starting to get spammy. >> Locked
