It's just the MPQ header and tables, no file.

Do you mean that all your maps are causing the error? Is there some kind of error log?

Feb 28 2011, 3:20 am Zhuinden Post #146

I'm sure it's because of Windows 7. Woo.

Farty you do know you can try Windows 7 Enterprise for 30 days?(You need a live account and say that you are an IT Manager)
http://technet.microsoft.com/en-us/evalcenter/cc442495.aspx?ITPID=neweffc
And then extend your 30 day trial: http://www.howtogeek.com/howto/windows-7/extend-the-windows-7-trial-from-30-to-120-days/

I think the problem is that he doesn't have a computer that meets the minimum requirements. Otherwise he could probably just pirate it and run it in a virtual machine.

This is weird. Im having trouble trying to find the file in brood war host option. I can find the file in the downloads folder, but I can't find it while on broodwar. Anyone got an idea why that is?

You forgot to put the extension on the map when saving it. End the file with ".scm" or ".scx" and it should appear.

Also as an unlikely issue, Single Player's map list is severely limited and cuts off after x amount of maps. Look at the folder on battle.net and it does not do this.

So I recompiled my source code and found the the CHK is compressed better, but WAVs are not added to the MPQ as well (resulting in larger maps with wavs, and smaller files without). I do not know what changes I've made since the last release to cause this ... :\
I was playing with removing preserve trigger actions and setting the flag, but apparently that actually increases the CHK size on most maps I've tried.

And apparently I never removed comment actions in TinyMap2. xD

Hmm yeah, I should have noticed that when I un-protected my map, all the comments are there they're just empty.

Can you allow the preserve trigger flag as an option? I don't care if it actually doesn't compress as well (surely can't be too huge a difference), but it'll provide a nice level of protection since Scmdraft doesn't let you edit the flags (although it will retain them if you open a map that has them and re-save it).

I figured out what was different... I changed the BlockSize parameter of MpqOpenArchiveForUpdateEx from 3 to 4. Larger numbers work better for the chk, but worse for the wavs.

In the next version there will be an option for it in the options menu ... Values like 2 or 3 work best if you have wavs, but 4 or higher works best if you don't.

Finally have Winbloze7 ... I made a build that makes a log file.
For me, at least, it compresses all of the WAVs and CHKs just fine. It crashed when adding scenario.chk to the mpq ... I set it to "Type 1" MPQ Compression in the Advanced Options. It might not compress as well as Type 2, but it didn't crash for me after that.

If anyone wants to try the latest build with the logging to try and help squash this bug, PM me. (Lanthanide? :awesome:)

I got the latest version from the link in the OP and it's not creating logs.

My experience is the same as yours: setting the CHK to Type 1 made it successfully save the map.

Except some maps I can use Type 2 with no problems ... It seems totally random.

Ok, well it's been over a year ... but I finally made a new release. Sorry, I could've done this a lot sooner.

Download!

When playing with the preserve trigger flag, I found that I never actually deleted comments ... No more Comment or Preserve Trigger actions!

And I added a fancy new Block Size option. Higher values compress WAVs better, but the CHK suffers. If in the stats page your wavs have high percentages (>~100%), increase this value and they will drop.
