I took a quick test last time I visited a doctor and, according to the UK scale, it is 6/5, which is considered as good/excellent.

I have a prescription of -2.2 in each eye I think. So I'm mildly myopic - hate the feeling of contacts but dislike wearing glasses.

Sucks to be short-sighted.

-2.2 is nothing. D:

Also, different brands of contacts, in my experience, have a huge impact on comfort. (My doctor had me try "Acuvue Oasys with Hydroclear Plus!" or whatever ... it was advertised on TV a lot. ... Worst contacts ever. They were thicker than the ones I like, they dried out really fast (despite claiming otherwise), and were generally awful. D:)

Never been tested past very basic "your eyesight is at least normal". Though, standing at the appropriate distance, I was able to read the 15 point on a wall chart at some medical place.
I'm wondering if my vision might be a bit below average, as it is often much blurrier than I'd like, but... obviously I've never seen with anyone else's eyes, so I have no idea.

Does anyone else have to yawn (or somehow otherwise water their eyes) to read at distance? Getting the moisture on my eyes just right probably nearly triples how well I can discern small/distant words and characters compared to my normal.

I have perfect eyes. I can read anything.
If you can read this, you are the gay.
Can you read this?
Read that, without changing the font or copy & paste. Or without viewing the page source.
Can you read this? Easy. And no, I didn't look at the quote. I saw it before I quoted this post.

Hello

"If you can read this, you are the gay." how the heck have you made all these letters transparent on all different SEN-Backgrounds?
Oh, nevermind... color = transparent :O

I voted other. Why? Because I have NO IDEA about what the hell the 20/20 represents. It's something used only in the US - I only know dioptry.
Therefore my left eye is +0,5 and the right is +1. The right one would need +0,5 cyl (or -0,5 cyl? Dunno) but my glasses have +0,75, so it makes my eyes hurt. So I don't use them - but I see well enough anyways.

How far away from the screen would I have to be standing to take the test?

None.

Jun 2 2010, 9:04 pm poison_us Post #30

Back* from the grave

I don't think you should do it on the screen, but w/e.
20 feet. If you're gonna do it yourself, cover/close one eye, write down every letter you see from the big "E" until you can't make a guess at the letter at all, repeat for other eye.

When your correct % drops below 80%, or 5/4, then you don't count the 20/x that that line represents. Basically, this means that if you get to line 6 (20/30), but you wrote down 2 wrong letters (6 total, 2/3 correct), you don't count the line, and your vision is between 20/40 and 20/30.

BS 4274-1:2003 "Test charts for clinical determination of distance visual acuity — Specification". It states that "the luminance of the presentation shall be uniform and not less than 120 cd/m2. Any variation across the test chart shall not exceed 20 %."

Then again, I dunno which size is the actual size that it's supposed to be. I think 88.6 mm height on the biggest "E" is standard, but can't remember.

EDIT: Based off of the 88.6 mm, I resized the 2000px chart to match the approximate ratio: Clicky!
Obviously, if ya gotta zoom, do so.

20/n is such a confusing scale... I go by prescription power
-9.5 and -9 sphere + -.75 cylinder (astigmatism), giving me a hard time looking for a good pair of contacts
Is the first in diopters, do you know? If so, then damn. D: Make mine look good.
Yes, I've surpassed the family record and have beaten my uncle and my father at shitvision.
My optometrist is -10/-10 though ;o

I could read that little bit quite easily. I know I don't have perfect vision because when I try and read thin lettering that is far away, or it is obscured, I cannot read it.

Relatively ancient and inactive

I have like -7, and wear glasses and have contacts. Probably going to get surgery on them, I look much better without glasses (and they press on my nose) and contacts are just uncomfortable.

I'm slightly farsighted in one eye and slightly shortsighted in the other.

Together, my vision is a little better than normal.
