OVERWATCH STATUS GO

Quote from Raitaki
Wtf, payne is a freegan now? :hurr: Great. Now he is at risk of being killed either by stray cats, dogs, crows over garbage OR a bear :massimo:
Did you miss the whole debate in the Shoutbox about freeganism before he left? :P

This is pretty epic. Not that I'd ever do it, but props to payne for doing it. Also, nice score on the weed bag.

Especially since there are so many homeless people starving, would it really be so bad to just take this food and dish it out on the night of its expiry?
I understand why they don't hand it out - because then no one would pay for it.

But the basic economics of supply and demand and price setting - they should've be lowering their prices until they only have a very few things to throw out each night. In particular, discounting things that were going to expire the next day or that day.

I, of course, was one of the most skeptical people. Now that he's doing it, though, I wish him the best of luck! And it appears he's already been having some good luck. :) While I think it was a silly idea, now that you're doing it I hope you enjoy yourself (and don't get raped). It actually makes me a lot happier to know that there are THAT many nice people still around. Have fun, dude, if you can read this.

This. Also, as for the eating garbage, I'd do it if it wasn't overly rotten.

This, as well. I'd totally do it too, but living in America has led me to not trust people. As for the companies giving expired food to the homeless, it won't happen in America due to the possibility that someone will sue them, the FDA would be on their ass, or sommat.

Then again, a "good" business runs as close to the supply as possible, so that they never have a large amount of excess food.

Man, 90% of stuff in commercial garbage bins is fresh. It's the public bins where people throw all the half eaten festering shite.

Food is cheap. I remember having to do stock-take, and to order 100 sandwiches, that we sell for £3.00 to £5.00 each, it cost the company like £20. Now, I ain't no mathematician but this means that company could literally allow 75% of all sandwiches to rot and get binned, and the company wouldn't make a loss. Of course, this is just bad practice and you want as much profit as you can get. Take this as another example. When this product first came out, it was heralded and praised... apparently some scientists had clinically proven it makes you look younger. Naturally, billions of women flocked to our stores to buy it. £21 for 30ml. It costs the company 18.2p to make 100ml. I wonder how much the scientists were paid... :)

Profit has no importance, at least not from your example. Any good business would throw away as little as possible, regardless of how much the food costs. It's simply good business practice to have little marginal cost. Markups we accept because either we can't make it ourselves, or we don't want to, and the business deserves to make money from our inability or unwillingness to produce.

And the business itself has to pay employees :P
Now, back to the subject, how goes it?

Vancouver? Man, he's an hour away from me.

If you don't hear from him for a year or so, assume I've eaten him.

Show them your butt, and when you do, slap it so it creates a sound akin to a chorus of screaming spider monkeys flogging a chime with cacti. Only then can you find your destiny at the tip of the shaft.

In all seriousness, I've been to Canada, and it's really similar to America.

I do stuff and thingies... Try widening and reducing the number of small nooks and crannies to correct the problem.

I couldn't live like that...
How often does he get a shower?
I would be ashamed of myself when I run around in public like a homeless.

My respect to Payne for doing that... somehow...
