For protein I usually eat chicken and occasionally beef. I can't stand pork or pig (outside of spaghetti sauce) and fish is unfortunately expensive to eat regularly. Our dinner menu usually consists of chicken, rice and mixed vegetables a couple times a week, shepards pie once, spaghetti once, and then a wild card/date night/pizza night during the week. Sometimes I make tuna noodle casserole with green beans, we'll do left overs, I accidentally made chicken and rice soup from scratch last week... We pan fry the meat but I don't use more than a tablespoon of oil usually. Usually split a chicken breast between us or only use half a lbs of Italian sausage for spaghetti. We both like vegetables but prefer different types so most of our vegetables are frozen or canned. I make salad with the spaghetti. Our diet is pretty grain heavy in terms of pasta but we eat hardly any bread unless we're eating out.
I eat out for lunch usually but I typically stay away from places like McDonald's or wendys. I prefer fast casual food, my favorite being Tokyo Joes, which is usually rice, chicken and vegetables. Sometimes I get sushi. Though today all I had for lunch was a single serve packet of almond nut butter with honey and I just can't figure out what else I could possibly be hungry for. Other times I have canned xhicjen noodle soup but I like potato chowder too. Sometimes I eat cheezits or goldfish and just snack instead of having lunch but if I don't have them in the house I don't really care.
I'm terrible at eating fruit or drinking juice. I find looking at fruit gross; I really can't explain it, because once I get past looking at it I don't mind eating it. All I see is a chunk of sugar. Ick. I like blueberries though, but only in small quantities. I like to bake but I have a terrible time unloading my baked goods on people and because of the sugar thing I don't eat a lot of baked goods (I have cookie dough in the fridge right now from a friend's daughter's fund raiser which is problematic).
It is easier to eat better now that my schedule is easier to manage and now that I'm removed from things like potatoes (which we only have if I make shepards pie or if we go out) that were available every day at the cafeteria in my old company's building. We still find ourselves in a cycle of eating out to procrastinate grocery shopping but again we try to not go to places that serve primarily burgers. It helps that he doesn't like the burger joint I do like and vice versa
it was REALLY hard, when I was coming home at 8pm and leaving at 6am, fit us to cook at home so we used to eat out a lot more than we do now. His schedule was nor a whole lot more forgiving either. It was very frustrating. Trying to fit in chores, errands and sleep within roughly ten hours of time a day really fucks you up.
Sorry to respond in plural terms, but when you live with someone else it is cheaper and easier to jointly plan meals.
Since you asked about medication, I'm only on birth control. I only bring this up because I've recently started it and since then I've noticed cravings have gone down and I've lost weight. However this all started at the same time my life became a great deal less stressful and when I started exercising regularly again so I think there are multiple causes. I used to be on meds for an over active thyroid but that is seven years ago now.
I will end by saying my absolute favorite thing in the whole world is buffalo. Beef just doesn't compare. Omg. So good. So expensive.
