People like Moose, NudeRaider, ect, posted so frequently in various forums like UMS Assistance that they could rack up thousands of minerals just from posting.

That was when :sc1: was the purpose of the site and mapping questions were always in season. It's difficult to earn mins now. :awesome:
So true... sadly sooo true. I'm thoroughly bored now on SEN, and I've caught myself making posts that I would've never made back then. You could call it spam. This also explains why I involve myself in discussions like these. Something I wouldn't have cared for in the past.

But Ultimo, keep in mind that 1500 minerals isn't that much anymore if you give yourself a year to earn it. Which is about the timespan that is intended if you're contributing to SEN.

On topic of the games... well it's imbalanced right now because so few have a decent amount of minerals to play. The earnings of games should be spread among much more members, which would be the case if we would finally execute the code for starting capital...

The two games on SEN have too much of a risk to them. If we had a game that had a low risk low payout, more people would slowly gain minerals, rather than play these mineral eating games. Something like magic boxes but with 5 mins and 20 mineral rewards. Most people on SEN won't gamble their minerals because they feel that the loss is too high.

I agree, magic boxes is such a huge sink and raffle is just that, a raffle. Sometimes you'll get lucky and get only two others buying in, and sometimes you get 7 people. At the cost of 20 minerals, the risk is very high, while the reward is moderate. Something to slowly accumulate 5-10 minerals in game form, limited by hour intervals, would be cool. (You know, besides posting. :P)

Except the point of the minerals is to encourage productive posting... not to gain minerals by not posting.

Minerals are supposed to be for fun though, not serious business. :P Everyone is such a debbie downer about having fun on this website. If it was only for encouraging productive posting, raffles and magic box wouldn't exist then. :(

The question is...where can you be productive when most forums are inactive? Some ppl here still don't have sc2, and posting in some forums (such as this one) is the only way for them to gain minerals. Yes it's serious business, but you can't really be serious if there is no business to be serious to. :awesome:

The SC1 forums should still give minerals ... Most forums do give minerals, just not the unproductive "fun" ones.

Unfortunately, there's not much activity on the SC1 forums anymore...some of that, no doubt, is due to people moving to SC2, but I think the current tab system also hasn't helped matters at all. I've had at least one person on Battle.net tell me that they thought SEN no longer supported SC1 because it defaults to SC2 only and the SC1 tab isn't immediately obvious. Plus, I feel like people would be more likely to read and comment on SC1 posts if they didn't have to change tabs to see them. As a result of the low activity, it becomes awkward to post on the SC1 forums, since almost every thread feels like it would be a necro, which in turn means that it's very difficult for non-SC2 players to earn minerals.

In general, this just further reinforces how much I've hated our new layout, the tab system just doesn't feel like the right solution, something along the lines of the SC1 forums automatically being minimized unless stated otherwise seemed more intuitive, but I think that might have been discussed. Sometimes I even forget that we have SCI forums and I beg to wonder if anyone even posts in them anymore.

Personally I activated the option to see both forum groups and switched to Epic skin to have the option to keep the ones I'm not using collapsed (Turtle doesn't remember collapsed states). That way I have the best of both worlds.
But yes newcomers get irritated: A friend of mine who I sent to SEN for SC1 information also claimed that the forum UMS MMA doesn't exist because he overlooked the filter. When I told him where to switch he still didn't find the necessary information because the wiki is out of order and the "exported wiki articles" thread is still incomplete and contains countless doubles. In short it's not usable.

I'd prefer the filters work differently. By default both are off, so you can see all content. When you click the SC1 filter the SC2 content would be hidden until you click SC1 again. When you click the SC2 filter while SC1 filter is activated it would switch to hiding SC1 content and show SC2 instead.

I don't understand why we haven't kept the old SC1 wiki until at least most of the articles have been transferred. I know it still exists! That looks like someone decided SC1 isn't needed anymore and castrated it to force the switch. I protested heavily which lead the abomination called "exported wiki articles" which by far isn't enough. Further protests of mine then got ignored because said thread "is good enough". Reactivate our old wiki please!

Also, sorry if I'm asking this again but does SC1 forums give minerals and if they don't, why not?
Edit: Just tested, and it does give minerals, I guess I'm just not used to being poor and in debt. Weird I just posted again in the SC1 forums and it didn't give any minerals, seems completely random to when I actually get minerals. I'm probably just hallucinating now though. =(

They do, but may give less than SC2 forums (likely not). From experience I can determine that if SC2 does give more minerals, it's probably only for map showcase threads.

ᴄʜᴇᴇsᴇ ɪᴛ!

you get minerals in the sc1 and sc2 forums. Help forums get the most. showcase/general forums get the least (unless you made a map, where the first post gets more than the replies). The exact amount isn't that important.

This needs to be quoted repeatedly until it happens. There are a lot of people talking about making this or that change to minerals, and sure, improvements in that area would be nice, but shouldn't restoring an actual map-making resource to usefulness take priority over a silly forum currency?

OVERWATCH STATUS GO

What? http://www.staredit.net/?p=oldwiki has been around for a long time, and most of the relevant articles have either been ported to SEN's new wiki or redone.

I know there are a few missing from there, but those aren't ever coming back unless someone finds an old cached version of SEN and copies them.

The new wiki has much less SC1 information than the old wiki, and even when it does have an article for something, it's often inferior to the old wiki version. For instance, the article on scarabs and interceptors in the new wiki contains only a few of the more commonly known systems, while there were additional ones on the old wiki that could be useful in certain circumstances. The new wiki's SC1 material is also fairly poor in terms of organization; the straightforward lists, even if there were two of them, of the old wiki were much easier to use than the disorganized jumble of categories that we have now.

The exported oldwiki that you've linked to counts for basically nothing, because even if we don't talk about what it's missing, it's so disorganized and has so much screwy stuff going on with the pagination that it's close to impossible to use.

I've just asked Devourer and he confirmed that the articles are all still there (he told me that before), there's just no page code accessing them anymore. If one were to reactivate it he would have to "look at oldwiki2.php" according to Devourer.

And Devlin, the "old wiki" you linked to is exactly the same as the "exported wiki articles" thread in UMS MMA. And as I said there's a lot of missing articles and countless (like 10 each) of doubles. You have to browse 16 pages of unorganized doubles and still won't find the article you're looking for. Trust me, it's unusable. I'm not exaggerating to prove a point. I've actually tried to use it and failed.

And of course SEN has backups. Btw. SEN never deletes anything.

I also found more in the mySQL database that aren't there. I'll probably put them in the new Wiki soon, as well.

Also, http://www.staredit.net/?p=oldwiki2 :D
