OVERWATCH STATUS GO

WoL isn't even finished being balanced yet and they're gonna be releasing HotS. There's a whole lot of new players on SC2 that don't even know what DT means btw :><:
DT as in dark templar? But there are dark templars in SC2. I don't get it...

I really don't know anymore. I don't even have WoL, so I'm not trying to waste $100-$120 just to see what happens to Kerrigan and Raynor. The story has been destroyed (the more I think about, the more I rage :flamer: ), and melee has gotten boring for me. Custom mapping is so overshadowed by big bright buttons and ladders on bnet that can't even play anything. Popularity system makes everything trash; not being able to actually host something pisses me off. Channels are completely useless; I can't even message someone who I just played a game with to figure out what their friend code is. And did I mention the story is a huge gimmick just to try to lure veteran sc players back in? It totally sucks.

To be fair, though, I may buy it. Depends on if I want to use my money and if my parents let me spend $100 on games (which they probably won't, so maybe I won't buy it now that I think about it). ;o

Sounds like you just don't know how to use b.net2.0

That's probably true. But I shouldn't have to figure out how to do something so simple. It should come naturally. >_>

I'm a veteran SC player, and I barely remember the storyline (I can't wait for Edmund Duke to make an appearance sometime!). I would have gotten SC2 even if they used the exact same SC1 story word-for-word. Those who played SC1 competitively switched to SC2 not for the story but for the melee competition. I fail to see this as a gimmick.

What destroyed it, exactly? I thought it was painful in Brood War when everyone was like, "Okay, Kerrigan, you seem trustworthy; let's ally up." Twice.

Maybe I'm just an easy sell, but I thought the Dominion becoming the entity it worked so hard to destroy, and its eventual destruction, was told well. In fact, I thought the story was pretty good. It continued generally around where the last one left off, followed a key character, had a general goal, and incorporated gameplay into each scenario, all while containing elements of mystery, foreshadowing and humor. But since the internet says it's bad, I guess I'm completely wrong.

He's probably just saying the game is so new that some SC2 players that were introduced to the game through the sequel aren't yet familiar with its terminology. It's a weird argument, though, because SC1's expansion was released only 6 months after the original, and SC2 has been released almost for a complete year now.

Brood War had proper character development and a great storyline. It wasn't just Raynor crying about how Kerrigan is evil. And since when did Raynor feel sorry for Kerrigan? He specifically says that he's going to be the man who kills her in Brood War (after Fenix dies), but in WoL, he just gets depressed whenever he thinks about her. And in Brood War, you actually did different things in each mission, and almost all the missions added to the storyline. In WoL, you find artifacts for the first 24 missions, and then the actual story starts in the last five. Not to mention all the stupid loop holes the storyline has. -_-

So Raynor was devoid of emotion in Brood War? Or was he was just angry all the time, bent on revenge? I thought he went through the same emotional struggle regarding the old Kerrigan in BW, and he even trusted Kerrigan until she betrayed them. But if it was just mindless rage for the world, I am less impressed with the BW storyline. Also, many missions in WoL were not required; you can beat the game without helping the colonists or Tosh. Yes, the beginning was slow, but that was because you weren't starting with a giant army and had to build it up. In SC1, you joined different factions and never had to do this.

Get out of bronze league. :awesome: You're complaining about brand-new players trying their first game? Everyone starts somewhere.

That seems easily solvable by playing in a league that isn't full of new players.

I really don't know...

My personal view is that I'm not going to buy it until some major stuff is changed.

What made Blizzard games special for me was the fact that I could buy ONE GAME and get so many other games out of it. Granted they weren't the real thing, but I didn't have a credit card and even though I do now I still hate steam with a passion. Also games get spendy real quick.

Another problem I have is well... melee is just dry to me. E-Sports has taken the creativity and dynamics out of play (I made it to platnum back in Beta in both 1v1 and 2v2 so I'd say I have a valid opinion) by balancing for feeding in the same 2-3 equations for each race and getting the same answer every time. Even back in my chess years I had more interesting play than what this is.

The other thing that has happened is that "Activision-Blizzard" has stopped being a receptive body. I used to feel sorry for them. The reason was when the game was released there was a massive port of both SC and WC3 players over to SC2. SC players mostly for melee, WC3 mostly for custom maps. At 10 million copies sold over a decade SC1 was probably the bigger group to come over, but look at this tiny poll. I'd say it lines up pretty close.

Will the bulk of the community be buying HotS. The answer is yes. But how big is this "Bulk"? This poll says 65-70% at the time of this post. I suppose thats a "Bulk" if I ever saw one. Ok, but what about the other 25-30%? Moot point I suppose.

The question boils down to: How much money and time will it take fix it vs how much they will lose if they don't fix it?

I'm going to go ahead and link this to the battle.net forums and see if we can get a bigger spread on this beacuse this is numbers Blizzard ought to base their decisions off.

His strategy is to get DT's and have his partner defend him, so I don't think he'll be leaving that league.

I chose "No, definitely not" because I'm not waiting until HotS for them to fix the custom games system.

Yes, if they allow 14 character names. I am quite heartbroken over having to ditch the name I've been using since 2001.

Absolutely! Loved the Starcraft 1 campaign and especially the Starcraft 2 campaign (I'm a big Starcraft nerd, read all the books). I'm definitely buying the Starcraft 2 Expansion! CAN'T WAIT!

Aug 29 2011, 2:43 am BlueWolf Post #76

Of course I will. I can't help but think of pre-release of WoL, some people saying they weren't going to buy because of the no LAN support or w/e. Yet, they bought the game in the end.

Sc2 has some imbalances, but perhaps HotS will have somewhat of a solution to these imbalances. We might see new units, spells, features for both melee and Mapping tools, etc, etc, or we might just see an expansion with a new campaign.

Can we not do this again? Some people liked the SC2 campaign (myself included). We're entitled to that opinion, as you are entitled to hating it. Let's leave it at that.

No, there doesn't need to be. We shouldn't have to convince you of why we like the campaign. We have been accepting the fact that you hate SC2, and have been letting you repeat yourself in all the times you've felt the need to express how much you hate it. Now you need to accept the fact that a lot of us don't hate it, and stop. I'm tired of this same argument coming back.
