You guys HAVE checked the internal filters right? "o" -> internal filters.

MPC does stream, but doesn't act as a server, and won't do all streams. I can't find any streams to test it, since everyone uses flash.

Eh. It plays what I need so far, and the click to pause/play is really handy. If I run into problems with formats, I'll just dl VLC.

None.

I didn't but .wmv was checked on the left list and .mov on the right list. Don't quite get the difference.

Alright, apparently it's supposed to be able to play streams but when I tried it, it failed. Probabaly because of the codec problem.

I found out that the 64Bit version is the problem. The 32Bit version plays .wmv just fine. Kinda strange. Still I'm lacking the codec for Apple Sound Media Handler. Maybe I'll find something on the Internet.

ᴄʜᴇᴇsᴇ ɪᴛ!

as I said before, quicktime alternative. The only things worthwhile anymore are h264, divx/xvid, theora, flash, mpeg and various audio codecs (aac, lame, flac, ac3, vorbis) anymore.

Do you know the codecs of that .mov file? Download cccp insurgent and test the file to see which codecs it uses, or download gspot.

The left list is for splitting the file, the right is the actual codec.
Everything you wanted to know about MPC-HC. Even if it's mostly anime, it's got a lot of details there.

If VLC works fine for you, then go ahead, but IMO MPCHC is simply much better, and will work with anything, you just have to get it to work (usually isn't too hard).

DVXA is a new feature in DirectX which will use hardware acceleration, and I don't think VLC has it just yet, but MPC uses it, virtually negating any stuttering on HD graphics cards, 7k+ nvidia cards, and the newest intel cards.

I foresee we'll eventually all be using VP8, so it'll be a moot point which player you have (except for legacy stuff, of course).

Alright. Using 32Bit version of MPC and QT light solved playback problems for now. Still have to check for streams now.
So the actual testing can finally begin. :)

Btw. rockz the link that explains MPC pretty much sux. There's tons of useless information and when he compares image quality he uses Manga sources which are terribad at telling how a certain function fares in actual movies.
There is some useful info but it's really drowning in all the pics and text around it.

Oh and Falk, about Teracopy, is there no way I can override the drag and drop copy function of Windows XP 64Bit?
Currently all I can get to work is right click a file/folder and choose Tera copy and then a window pops up where I can choose copy/move and the destination, which is kinda weird.

If you use the 32-bit version of Explorer instead of the 64-bit version it should work, but then there are issues with some things (main thing I remember is that most things don't show up in the control panel when you aren't using the 64-bit version of Explorer).

Uhhh can't see control panel items?! That's not really helpful... :><:
I really hate 64Bit. With a passion. Nothing works right on it. MPC and Teracopy only being 2 examples out of many. I hope when I actually need 64Bit (have more than 4GB RAM) the programs are finally made compatible with it. This is so ridiculous.

You just don't know how to read guides (or expect them all to be ridiculously simple, idk). If anything, it explains how useless most of the functions are, and manages to have pictures which make it easy to see the difference (it's really hard to see even on cartoons, even harder on live action). I've only skimmed everything (what I usually do with huge walls of text), as it explains the options available. Lord knows I'm not going to read it all, but it's nice to know what all these options are through a skim.

First of all, sorry for the rude statement above. It does have helpful aspects, it's just not the great guide I expected it to be after your praises. May I remind you of The TweakGuides Tweaking Companion which was an excellent guide, with a lot of practical knowledge.

I expect them to be detailed and straight to the point. I don't need a guide to tell me the difference between open in the same window, or one window for each video.
That's just superfluous / aimed at noobs.

My point exactly. He could have cut like 70% - 80% of his deliberations. Useful for me were the explanation of the audio gain control functions as the quick infos in the program weren't clear about it and the detailed explanation of the different renderers.

I disagree. The Manga pics had very little detail, so all you could see was the effect on a few clear cut lines. And I found it difficult to compare the pics because you needed to scroll and there were never cut outs of the relevant parts.
I like to compare image quality on scenes with faces, hair and fast moving objects (often blurred).

Same. I'll probably use it when I have a specific question with a keyword search.

The main problem was he didn't explain the things from the view of a user. He didn't try to cover the questions a user new to MPC may have, instead he just explained MPCs options one by one, even the most obvious ones.
For example I'm still looking into a way to display a neat playlist. I found a window that can be attached INSIDE the viewing window (instead of outside), and has no way of auto hide. I could detach it so I have basically 2 windows, but that's unusually clunky for MPC's otherwise clean design.

Change your actual screen orientation and they all do that.

I'd like to make a "Add to MPC playlist" option when right-clicking on a video file. Any possibly remove some others, like the "move to security-directory" and "play with WMP". Any ideas? Additionally, is there any way to do the... orientation thing to make MPC play videos sidewayys with a single hotkey or something?

Also, my laptop has "Adobe Media Player". Does it have any use?

Usually they're in the registry. I don't understand most of the hex garbage spouted.

http://www.winvistaclub.com/e11.html

It's quite annoying to edit the context menu. It makes me wonder what MS was thinking.

To rotate the screen, you can set a hotkey in your graphics card control panel (Usually it's ctrl+alt+right/up/down/left). If you can't figure it out, post which control panel you're using and someone can help you out from there.

The "Adobe Media Player" is probably just that. A media player. It shouldn't have a use other than what MPC already does.
