We can't explain the universe, just describe it; and we don't know whether our theories are true, we just know they're not wrong. >Harald Lesch
First of all, sorry for the rude statement above. It
does have helpful aspects, it's just not the great guide I expected it to be after your praises. May I remind you of
The TweakGuides Tweaking Companion which was an excellent guide, with a lot of practical knowledge.
You just don't know how to read guides (or expect them all to be ridiculously simple, idk).
I expect them to be detailed and straight to the point. I don't need a guide to tell me the difference between open in the same window, or one window for each video.
That's just superfluous / aimed at noobs.
If anything, it explains how useless most of the functions are,
My point exactly. He could have cut like 70% - 80% of his deliberations. Useful for me were the explanation of the audio gain control functions as the quick infos in the program weren't clear about it and the detailed explanation of the different renderers.
and manages to have pictures which make it easy to see the difference (it's really hard to see even on cartoons, even harder on live action).
I disagree. The Manga pics had very little detail, so all you could see was the effect on a few clear cut lines. And I found it difficult to compare the pics because you needed to scroll and there were never cut outs of the relevant parts.
I like to compare image quality on scenes with faces, hair and fast moving objects (often blurred).
I've only skimmed everything (what I usually do with huge walls of text), as it explains the options available. Lord knows I'm not going to read it all, but it's nice to know what all these options are through a skim.
Same. I'll probably use it when I have a specific question with a keyword search.
The main problem was he didn't explain the things from the view of a user. He didn't try to cover the questions a user new to MPC may have, instead he just explained MPCs options one by one, even the most obvious ones.
For example I'm still looking into a way to display a neat playlist. I found a window that can be attached INSIDE the viewing window (instead of outside), and has no way of auto hide. I could detach it so I have basically 2 windows, but that's unusually clunky for MPC's otherwise clean design.
