Yeah I really want the default skin changed, as I've had first time visitors tell me it's ugly, corbo who MADE the skin thinks it's ugly and said it was made in half an hour and is incomplete, it's more image heavy than the oter skins which means sen loads slower which means we get a lower google page rank, etc.

I think the default skin is ugly, but more than that it is slow and clunky. Which is bad - slow sites turn off new visitors.

At least the SQL errors don't happen anywhere near as often as they used to.

To settle the score of which skin is 'slowest', it should be pretty simple to change the default to other skins, then run the Google speed test (which will of course be testing the default skin) and see what the scores are.

That way we can actually have an informed choice: knowing that 3 skins are X speed, 2 skins are Y speed, we choose between X or Y and then choose one of the skins from that subset.

Lagging should be server's fault or SEN's code or whatever.... it IS NOT that big. Farty and I had fun compressing the images, though I gotta admit it is really image intensive. And yeah, I specifically made it so it supported maaaany resolutions I think I even considered 800x600

Either way turtle is not really about design as much as it was thought as a functional skin. You have everything you need and only what you need at the distance of one click. Thing that you didn't used to have. And the quick serch is something REALLY important that... does it even work right now? I haven't checked atm.

It is the least of our problems. I don't think anyone expects this to fix anything on SEN. Concerns were raised about the default skin being shitty, so I figured a vote would be appropriate. This topic is to gauge which of our skins seem like the best as far as a default look goes. Nothing more than that. Granted none of this will matter once we switch to the newer SEN version, supposing Cecil actual pulls through. That's beside the point though, and a debate for another time in another topic.

Devourer and DavidJCobb are redoing the DLDB since it was just thrown together and IP never really finished it.

I have no load issues with Turtle compared to the other skins. All the skins generally have the same amount of images. I'd put the blame on the server first and foremost. I've seen general mysql and "max_user_connection" errors every night for the past 2 weeks, for that matter.

It worked when Turtle was first released, but if I remember correctly it was one of the many features that was disabled because it was thought to be the cause of a slower SEN. It should either be added back or removed entirely, as it is just causing confusion at the moment. Then again our entire Search feature takes forever to load anyway, so its yet another thing that would need to be fixed.

I'm sticking to Epic. It's simple and easy to browse. Though, I wish I could get rid of the icons on the very left of every category.

But then how would you know if there's new posts in that subforum?

I've tried the other skins, but I just end up switching back to Epic after a while. Maybe I'm just used to it, or maybe it just seems better; I can't be sure. Carbonite is a runner-up.

Turtle wouldn't be so bad if it weren't for the banner.

Just make a skin randomizer. Each time someone using the default skin refreshed a page, it switched to a random skin. There, now, everyone is happy!
