You try to convince d'Artagnan that it would be better to simply execute Ron and Jim, rather than maroon them, but he refuses.

"We have to punish them by the Articles," he says. "I do not wish to bring disorder to the Trident. Besides, the captain has as much authority as I do, and we both know he prefers the rule of law."

The next day, the Devil's Trident approaches Reeve Island. The island is about a mile long and two miles wide, with plenty of hills and trees, but no human settlements. You watch d'Artagnan walk to the brig and take out his keys. He's just about to unlock the cell door when a crewmember bursts into the cabin and shouts, "All hands on deck! Prepare for battle!" D'Artagnan puts his keys back into his pocket and says to the prisoners, "I guess it's your lucky day." He turns around leaves with the others, ordering you to follow or be charged with cowardice in battle.

You have five minutes until the crew notices your absence.

GREAT. We made an extra enemy we never had to made, and now we're leaving them on an island. Ron *might* already have a plan to get himself off the island - possibly relating to the surprise attack - Jim will most likely try to follow (or die). In like four chapters we'll run into them again for the ultimate origins story betrayal; our past has come back to thwart our future. And its all your fault. You greedy fucks.

Prepare for battle, try to find out from Jim what the hell is going on if he knows, claiming you did try to vote not guilty but was not listened to. You still have time to do a little damage control.

My charisma is slowly manipulating you all into agreeing with me.

For this battle, hop into the ocean with a rope and catch a Great White Shark. Use the rope as reins and ride the Great White into battle. For his service in the battle, allow the mighty beast to go free afterwards.

Okay. Everyone agreed to the same thing for the first time since the game started, and the character did something completely different, overlooking it for the sake of railroading, which wasn't even necessary since the prisoners could have been found dead after they got to the island for the sake of this battle taking place. If it was a matter of not having the time to write something long and awesome sounding, then I doubt anyone would have minded waiting an extra day for a lengthy but interesting update.

Anyways, I propose the same course of action which was agreed upon last turn.

The short version: Get loaded weapons (or whatever means can be reasonably managed) and use them to execute Jim and Ron. See the previous lengthy post for relevant details about contingencies and flavor. Consider the situation and then creatively modify these actions however much is necessary in order to achieve the same result while reducing the time involved to less than five minutes.

After that, go join the fight.

An artist's depiction of an Extended Unit Death

Search the room (or anywhere nearby) for anything that could be used an an impromptu lockpick or something that could otherwise break free the prisoners, and hand the most useful item(s) found to either Ron or Jim, wishing them the best of luck. Then head out for battle.

On second thought, these two should probably be eliminated. It's too risky that Ron knows you killed Peavey and that he's being framed by you, so if we let him live, he'll only come back to kill us. Go with the original plan of killing them.

So there is no confusion this time: I support this notion. It's in our best interest as far as long term goals go.

Ensure that Ron and Jim are eliminated. Write the cause of death to both in a notebook before killing them in the manner described.

Serious? I thought it was fairly one-sided with ron and jim being loldead as a decision. Do what we can to get em dead.

Find a way to open the door for Ron and Jim and briefly explain that you know they're innocent but they have to run for now. Give them supplies and access to a raft and go join the fight.

D'Artagnan or the captain would have found out if Red had tried to kill them during the night. Red would then be marooned, and the RP would be over. I was already planning a battle to take place on Reeve Island, as a diversion to allow the prisoners to escape, and for other parts of the story, but it seems that escape won't be necessary.

-----

You rush to the armory, grab a sword, dagger, and three pistols (one of which is unloaded). In the commotion of preparation no one suspects you of doing anything out of the ordinary. You sprint back to the brig to find Ron and Peavey behind bars, awaiting their fate.

Deviously you coax Ron over. He cautiously approaches the bars. Pretending to offer him a lockpick, you grab his arm and stab him with the dagger until he dies. No one hears his screams over the shouts of men preparing for battle.

"Avast!" yells Jim. "Ye killed an innocent man!"

"Nay, Jim," ye say. "He killed Peavey, and deserved to die. I know ye be trustworthy, and I want to help ye escape. With the crew preoccupied with battle, no one will notice a small dinghy filled with supplies leaving the Trident. Ye be able to escape and wait on Reeve Island until I can send a ship to retrieve ye." Jim's face shows that he doesn't believe you.

"Here," you offer the unloaded pistol to Jim, placing it on the ground just inside the bars. "I trust ye, me hearty. Surely ye trust me?"

Jim slowly advances forward and bends over to take the pistol. When he looks up, his face meets your firearm.

"I killed Peavey and set you up," you whisper, and Jim's head explodes all over the cell, pieces of his brain mixing with Ron's blood. Already the pirates have begun to fire their blunderbusses. No one notices another gunshot or the smoke coming from below deck.

Joining the battle above, your blood-stained outfit instills fear in your enemies. Fighting through the crowd with an enourmous "Yarr", you see that three Dutch sailors have surrounded d'Artagnan. A large soldier is also trading blows with the captain, driving the pirate leader towards a wooden wall.

"Déja vu!" shouts d'Artagnan over the clamor. "Help moi!"

"Ahoy, Red!" shouts the captain. "Where does ye loyalty lie?"

You have one loaded pistol and a cutlass. Within seconds, one of the two will be dead, and Ron won't be coming to your aid this time.

An artist's depiction of an Extended Unit Death

How come d'Artagnan is the best swordsman on the Devil's Trident but he's always screaming for help in fights?

We barely know the captain and have been undermining him this whole time anyway.

Quote from rayNimagi

We need to figure out which person is going to be dead. D'Artagnan is surrounded, but he's also a great fighter. The captain is only facing one opponent, but his back is against the wall. From what Ray said, one of these two is going to survive their encounter regardless of our intervention.

D'Artagnan wasn't calling for you specifically this time, which means he could have been calling for help to one of his connections. The captain referred to you by name, which means nobody else is around to help him.

Scenario 1: We save the captain's life, and both he and d'Artagnan survive. The captain will warm up to us, but it will be the second time we've proven to be unreliable to d'Artagnan, and he may even plan to eliminate Red like he did Peavey.
Scenario 2: We help the captain who wasn't going to die, and d'Artagnan dies. The captain will warm up to us, but d'Artagnan's connections may be a problem to us (provided they know we let d'Artagnan die).
Scenario 3: We save d'Artagnan's life, and both he and the captain survive. The captain will be pretty angry with us, and given that he'll be in charge of the ship, we might have to start a mutiny then and there to save ourselves.
Scenario 4: We help d'Artagnan who wasn't going to die, and the captain dies. D'Artagnan would likely take over the ship and you'd probably be his right-hand man.

Scenario 4 seems to be the best. If the captain lives, there will still be the issue of explaining why Ron and Jim are dead, whereas d'Artagnan will likely overlook it for us.

All options weighed, it seems like helping d'Artagnan and hoping the captain dies is the best option.

Allow both to die, and then reign as the new captain. This is the opportunity we need.

Shoot the captain's attacker with your pistol and then throw whatever you can (empty pistol, secondary weapons, taunts, planks, etc.) against D's attackers. Try to get their attention, if only for a split second so D can escape, evade or even kill one of the 3. Use your creative mind to find something that's effective at that. And then run towards D's aid.

While running gauge if you can seriously wound one of the 3 men with your cutlass if you throw it against them and if you would be able to retrieve it to eliminate/finish off whoever's left of the 3. If you decide chances are good, throw your sword at one of D's attackers.

It seems like we should have been able to enter the brig, how many guards do they need to post outside a single locked cell :P

I didn't mean to suggest that you didn't have good reasons for wanting to avoid the agreed upon actions, just that it wasn't necessary to disregard those actions since the future storyline could have been adjusted negligibly to account for it (like successfully executing the prisoners at night, and having the battle break out at the island after the bodies are discovered).

Hey, that's pretty brilliant :O I'm going with this. Let them die, and lead the battle, ensuring that you become captain.

No matter what, let d'Artagnan die. He's the only one who knows you wanted to execute the prisoners.
