Alternatively change the icon so it's less obscure. That's what I did for Dungeon Escape and Devourer was kind enough to implement it.
For a new skins-system (mostly internally), all skins but the default one have been removed for now.
However,
you can now set a skin to use a fixed width.
Ideas for improvements? Tell me. Other skins will follow.
Further is any skin divided into a third part now, a mobile-phone version.
Well the system works, but I can't seem to grasp how one can show so much information like SEN has in like 80pixels width (phone's "device-width").
It apparently is considered to be bad to not use device-width meta viewport.
So, the mobile version is only visible for me as of now until I have figured something out to make it look good.
Further, as oftenly requested, are the rank-icons now no longer part of the skin itself. Therefore, you can chose your own rank-icon-pack. See link above.
((The reparser is currently running so the icons of some quoted members in old post might be having a broken image until the reparser has finished.))

Here's a PoC I had for making the index page mobile responsive using Bootstrap:
Obviously that's not easily accomplished with what we currently have, though.
My problem is the insanely small smartphone screen in width. For example, it is -impossible- to have two boxes (like in your draft) next to each other with solid font-size and readability. If you have two boxes and the font-size is okay, there are like 3-4 line breaks in every setence.
I just have too little space to work with.
Hmm.
EDIT:
This might be a lack of experience for me though. I do not know.

You can collapse it into one box per row, too, depending on the width. The point was that trying to keep the same layout for mobile and desktop would be problematic.

Yeah, I am afraid this is nearly impossible.
Well it is easily implementable to fetch different HTML per script now, depending on whether a phone is connecting or not.
I do not know yet what I will do.

I've been using Bootstrap a ton for side projects I'm working on and I'm a huge fan. If we started using it for our skins, I think that'll give SEN a much cleaner look ultimately and definitely help with mobile use.

Request: "My Color" option to be returned to forum posts. Since it used to be there, my assumption is it was removed due to people either not using it or using it improperly or something of the sort. What I'd really like is for it to be a semi-permanent WYSIWYG selection, as in the shoutbox.
I have also been looking forward to this being reimplemented again. I'm not sure why it was removed in the first place though.

The v5 skin "Carbonite" has returned to SENv6.
Select it here. Added a fullscreen-version as well.

Tripple post since I done quite a lot today.
You can now quote shouts from other pages (other than page 1). Basically, you can type anything in the textfield of the shoutbox and it will not get lost while having ajax navigation. It will not work for non-ajax-navigation though.

How's the responsive development coming along? Have you thought about just hiding some of those features on the home page when someone is on mobile? All mobile users need is the news feed.

If we're going mobile, hiding or limiting features is the one thing we do
not want to do.
As an avid user of the index page, I can say without question the "Latest Posts" is the most important information. In fact, the news feed is possibly the one thing I could live without on that page.

I disagree. The mobile version should be streamlined. I would recommend using analytics to figure out which sections are least used and collapse them or move them to separate views. The last thing a mobile user wants to do is scroll past all of the latest posts and latest productions to get to the latest news. Ideally the home page would be simple view that has call-to-action buttons to these sections.
Re-enabled code for "Show All Smilies" in the posting console.
As you can see, it is not well positioned/managed layout-wise.
Anyone?

That's redesigning, which is necessary for mobile responsiveness. Your statement was to remove features because "all mobile users need is the news feed", which is what I disagree with.
I don't want to have to scroll past/navigate away from the news feed that hasn't changed for a month just to get to the actual new content. That's the same reason why we have a configurable setting to put the Shoutbox at the top of the page instead of the bottom.

News feed is worthless, haven't looked at it in weeks. Maybe if something important (ie not SC2) shows up there, I'll pay attention to it. If mobile just gave us site navigation and "Latest Posts," I'd be perfectly happy.
After opening a box in the Magic Boxes, trying to use the Site pop-down menu would not work.
Hovering Site would show the menu, but trying to get my mouse into the menu would make it disappear.
Importance level: 0|10.
I don't see why SEN doesn't have a "latest posts" search function in the first place, like any other modern forum. This is something we actually do need, especially when activity on SEN spikes and there are more than N recent posts, where N is the number of posts currently listed in the "latest posts" bar.

So in essence you'd like to to be able to leave the "search for:" field empty, as long as you reduce the results with other criteria (like time or poster)?
I strongly agree.
For other reasons though: Having to know which exact words were used when I'm looking for a specific post has proven tedious in the past.
