An artist's depiction of an Extended Unit Death

This is only partially on-topic, but I totally used ChaCha to try to figure out how to break into the car in Azrael's TKG.

Quote from ChaCha
How can I break into a car that has bullet resistant glass when the only tools I have are a flat screwdriver and a 2.5-foot metal meat hook?

I would use the metal meat hook to stick it over the windows and inside the car and somehow unlock the car.
Totally useless answer (since the car's windows were completely up), but the fact that it was answered made my day.

Anyway, you'd need a supercomputer like Watson to be able to provide automated answers for that site. I do need money, but I wouldn't have the time to make anything decent off of these kinds of sites. Online jobs will probably never compare to the ones you'll find in your local area.

But Roy! It's not just about the money! You'll learn so much new stuff by googling random questions asked by people too brain-dead to google them themselves!

ChaCha is a mobile answering service. They used to be online. People text or call in there question and we reply via text message.

Yeah, Chacha is actually a legitimate business. Handy for people like me who don't have internet on their phones. You can also just text Google, though. >.>

wth is starcraft

Doesn't seem like a scam or any sort of multi-level marketing scheme, but it does seem like awful pay. :/

Its similar to eHow and Associated Content (or Yahoo Contributors whatever the hell it is now).

I'm going to give it a shot. I'm curious. And since you didn't appear to put a referral link, I'm not worried. :awesome:

Though I am confused about how I answer questions. Do people contact me via SMS or IM or is it optional how you respond?

Apr 12 2011, 4:41 pm CaptainWill Post #26

They sure are. Plus, some of the queries come from SMS on mobile phones without a reliable internet connection.

I like how they give you a better description of what is going on after you sign the contract and register. Otherwise its very tedious and I doubt it will pay off.

Kinda neat idea though. :P

I'm aware, I used it a few years ago. The vast majority of people have access to browsers on their phone, though, making it useless.

OVERWATCH STATUS GO

I just realized this is a lot like KGB, except I've heard of KGB due to their television advertisement campaign.

So you sit in front of your screen, waiting to receive a question from a random person and from there you try your best to answer it, and the more questions you answer, the more money you earn?
Do people pay for submitting questions?

Yes, it's very similar to KGB. ChaCha was running television advertisements a while ago as well. ChaCha is also running there own radio talk show.

ChaCha is free to use. You log into your dashboard once you've been hired. From there a alert box will pop up stating a query is ready to be expedited. Once you click OK, you will be taken to the expeditor console. The question is already there and sometimes the answer is already listed. All you have to do is either retype the question and fix any spelling or grammar errors and send it onto a specialist so they can research the question and send the answer, or if the answer is already listed; you simply click the answer and press send.

Since ChaCha is hiring expeditors only at the moment, you don't have to find the answer.

They actually need "specialists" to answer the questions? I'm sure I could do that rather than the admin work which the role you're mentioning seems to be.

Last as I was aware, yes.

What Slyence means is "to some extent, yes".
It has a number of in-built tools for quickly finding the answers to more trivial questions (ones which can be answered with sports logs, dictionaries, etc.) or similar past ones, otherwise to send the questions to someone familiar with the subject if it can't be answered in a few seconds via the above methods.

I don't remember if it was chacha, but I asked for a derivative of a math equation and it told me that it was "sign".

And I wasn't asking for the derivative of -cos(x)

Its just a rank....

Of all of them, though, if you're looking for practical experience I would rather put down that I transcribed phone calls. I'm sure a lot of people would be more interested in that than in answers stupid questions about 1080p and how much horsepower a car has.

If it's still the same as it was a few years ago you get a few questions free and then they ask you to subscribe and pay.

So I was 'accepted' to be a generalist, and I think that this part is fun. I made 12 bucks yesterday, which isn't that much but hey, I could either do random queries or I could sit around and be bored. :P

In my opinion, transcribers/expediters apparently don't do anything. I've received so many spelling errors, mistranslations, and miscategorized things that it isn't funny. In one day, even. Which doesn't effect their pay (unless they get caught), but it does effect mine, because I have to go through and find out what the original text was trying to say, and then if it isn't categorized correctly the pay rate is lower.

Otherwise its fun. :D I like looking up random things on wikipedia. I don't see how anyone could make a living off of it though.

It's fun to ask chacha things like "What color underwear ;)"
