This long deadline is really making me lazy. I kinda miss the week long contests. I didn't have time to make much but at least I worked my ass off.

I'm willing to bet anything that most of us will just wait till the very last minute to start anything and, as a result, we'll only get a handful of entries, all of which will be unfinished demos of betas worth 5 minutes of gameplay, tops. :P

Maybe it would be a good idea to get incentives for completing something in the following weeks? I don't know, maybe extra points in the final ratings for anything playable; could be tiny demos, as long as they're not jokes. What do you think?

P.S. My map is called Electrodrome.

An artist's depiction of an Extended Unit Death

I think most people are occupied with education or other affairs, and they will get work done when they have time. Sure, there's no incentive to not procrastinate, but that's true for any project.

Mar 15 2011, 1:49 am FoxWolf1 Post #171

I dunno, it sounds like it could create bias in favor of things with more "vertical" development cycles, since they'll be playable at a lesser percentage of completion.

Besides, I like procrastinating...

When are we not occupied with "education and other affairs"? When I do get some "longer" periods of time off (2 weeks at the very most), I tend to get extremely lazy and work less efficiently such that the amount of work done in an equal amount of time becomes approximately the same. Besides for all the contests I've seen, everyone's always complaining about lack of time anyway, regardless of the contest's duration. :P

Isn't a contest's primary objective to get us to map more than we normally would? With a year-long contest, I'm making maps at my regular pace, which is quite disastrous. With "mini deadlines", at least we could make sure that some work is being done and potentially increase the amount of work put into every map.

Besides, there hasn't been any new good maps released in a long while. It would be fun to see what's being made and know that my own effort is not being put to waste in case I wind up being the only entrant.

Maybe have monthly sub-contests for trickling out bits of prize money along the way? :kame:

No one is stopping you guys from continuing the weekly contests, or making a monthly one. We can actually have more than one contest going. ;)

If, by some ungodly miracle, I finish Lunacies Open RPG over the summer or something, I will submit it (it was started last year, but I was told a while back that that was fine so long as a supermajority of the work was done THIS year, which it will be. If that's not good enough, I can always restart it.).

But seriously, don't count on anything... not only am I planning on doing my Civilization map first (if at all), I have a long history of never being able to finish anything =/.

I'm thinking about entering... but I have so much trouble actually finishing stuff, and I haven't even opened SCMD in over four months. :/ What should I do?

sounds like moisture control is often a pressing concern in your city
