For those of you who of never heard of A Song of Ice and Fire, it is a series of books in a fictional land. The books total out to five, none of which are prequels and another two are planned with the next one coming in the next 2 +/- years. I guess you could compare it to Lord of the Rings, but imagine a series so well done, not to mention dark, that it couldn't be broken down into a movie or would lose all of it's luster. So instead it was adapted into the new HBO series Game of Thrones, which is the name of the first book and can overall describe the central plot in a single title. It just finished it's first season and I must say, this was the first time that I was ever more impressed with an on-screen adaption than I was the books. It is more than worth watching if you are not much of a reader.
tl;dr watch the HBO series Game of Thrones and if you have, impressions.
Edit: For those of you with doubts, "the show received 13 Emmy Award nominations, including Outstanding Drama and Outstanding Supporting Actor."

Ah I had no idea Game of Thrones was based on that book. I haven't read that series but it's widely known (infamously so) for the massive wait for its latest book in the series. It has been contrasted to the massive wait we are all still suffering for the Republic of Thieves in the Gentlemen Bastard's series.
Do you reckon I should watch the show first or read the books first?
I loved the show, and loved the first 2 books. Have yet to read the 3rd. I don't think you need to read the book(s) beforehand, though perhaps all the families and various characters could get confusing without it (or some reference for that matter)

The die hard fans will say read the books first, but to be honest, the series does an amazing job of covering just about everything and in ways that didn't cross my mind before. Like I read some scenes differently that how they portrayed it on the show and to be honest, that was much better.
I love the series but i wanna punch the author in the face.
Close enough?
I will also agree Game of Thrones is a good watch. You really have to pay attention during the first few episodes (there are quite a number of characters introduced and like three separate stories running), but once you get past that, it's easy to follow.
I just started watching this series with my roommates. We got through season 1, and it's quite depressing. D:
I want to read the books, but my roommates tell me it's a lost cause, as they're all like 800 pages, but maybe I'll read them eventually. ;o
If wait until after you watch the show it will be really hard to get through the first/second books because you'll know what happens already. Reading the books past that is easy because even if they are 800 pages you'll want to keep reading them for the story. I would reccomend reading the books after watching the first season because they did a really good job at portraying the characters in the tv series so you'll come in with a richer understanding of the families. The first book will drag ass if you do this but i think its worth it.
Vrael -- It is, and I could definitely use a company with a commitment to flexibility, quality, and customer satisfaction to provide effective solutions to dampness and humidity in my urban environment.
Vrael shouted: Idk, I was looking more for a dehumidifer company which maybe stands out as a beacon of relief amidst damp and unpredictable climates of bustling metropolises. Not sure Amazon qualifies
sounds like moisture control is often a pressing concern in your city
