the fact that you guys (I don't mean to personally attack you by the way) always have to point out little things like this irks me
Pointing out things that break the rules irks you? How else should we go about it? If you read Roy's original post about the "Kind regards" thing, he was actually being pretty nice about it, giving DerGreif a simple heads up. It seems like "Why the fuck is that against the rules?" is what started the downward spiral in this topic.

It's not a big deal, yet for some reason, you have to potentially turn away new members by saying stuff like, "That's against the rules. Don't do it again. Oh, by the way, have fun here at SEN!"
I'm pretty sure that wouldn't have turned away a new member. If anything, the outburst that followed would, unfortunately.

And the fact that you try to so hard to get people to "contribute" by forcing them to strip themselves of any sort of personality until they have enough minerals to buy a feature that is given for free on almost every other forum on the internet is almost embarrassing
I don't think having a signature has anything to do with personality. Your signature tells me nothing about your personality, but your posts on the forums and in the Shoutbox do, on the other hand. What can you tell about my personality from my signature?

I'm pretty sure I could add tons of useless fluff into my posts that would get me far more minerals than a simple ending phrase would.[/quote[
Which is also against the rules. People have done that, and have been punished for it.
[quote=name:Dem0nS1ayer]it really bugs me that every time you guys make some point about a rule on SEN that would be considered ridiculous on any other website and a member speaks out against it, you all come down on that person like a pack of hounds smelling fresh meat.
As far as I can tell, Roy and I are the only staff members speaking up about this. Not to mention more people spoke up against the rule than for it. So I'm not sure who "you all" are.

but Devlin's half-trollish posts
I don't see any trolling in any of my posts in this thread. "Because we said so." was actually a serious response. We don't have to justify the rules, we just enforce them. That is explained in SEN's ToS. "Or you could put that ending in your signature instead of an image or list of maps. And yes. Especially if every single post is padded in a mineral-producing section." was also a real response. The point of signatures wasn't always self-promotion. It is called a "signature" for a reason. "Oh, okay." is the only post that could be considered trolling, but it was in response to what I assume was TiKels trolling, so whatever.
"Now it just looks like you're trying too hard." was a serious response as well. Like Roy, I thought your posts were mindless trolling after a while. I guess not.

Mind you, there is a big difference between adverstising for yourself and politely addressing others. Most people use signature space for doing the former. Also, if being polite (at the price of adding more words) makes a user guity of padding his posts, then using verbose language (like many users on this forum) should as well. Let's not be anal about this...
This really is blown out of proportion. We haven't fined DerGreif minerals or punished him in any way. Roy gave him a simple "by the way" and that was it. Any member can be polite without adding something like "Kind regards" to the end of every post. For the record, this isn't the first time someone has been told about the rule against adding something like this to the end of every post. This just seems to be the first time anyone other than the staff has noticed. We have also received complaints about people adding verbose language to posts to pad them, and have acted on those complaints. The best way to inform us of any such posts is to report them.
They only enforce the rules when it makes sense, I haven't seen anyone enforce rules just because someone is breaking the rules.
This sums it up pretty well, most of the time. A majority of our rule enforcement for minor rule violations stem from reports of posts where members believe someone is breaking a rule.
