So as we all know Facebook has the "Like" button where you can "like" just about, anything.
Not sure if it has been mentioned before, but how about one for SEN forum posts? We can see who likes whose posts and I think it would be especially helpful for assistance forums/threads.
None.

Sounds very close to the karma system. It would probably be abused in one way or another, and I don't see how it would be that helpful.
Generally, you know your post is liked when you get a positive response out of it, or at minimum, you receive no negative responses.
Sorry if I sound negative.
I'm all for having a similar system, as long as you can't down people's posts. I liked the karma system, except for the minus sign. No need to display disapproval for a post, but it is always a good them to praise useful and contributive posts.
Conceptart.org uses Thanks instead of karma. You can thank users in posts for specific posts, and the user accumulates a total Thank count.
As for abuse -it is possible to ignore the morons who abuse it if the userbase of the site is large enough.
None.
Well, if you like someone's post, what're you supposed to do? Reply to the post with : "I really liked your post man. Keep up the good work." ?
No way! That's obnoxious. It'd be nice to have a 'like' or similar. Plus you can express to the person that their post was awesome, helpful, etc. with such ease.
However I feel that "dislikes" (the negative symbol in the old karma system) aren't a good thing. There are usually only legitimate reasons to like a post, whereas a post may be disliked because nobody likes the person's opinion. Plus it's negative. We need SEN to be more positive, ya know?
I also don't think there's a need to keep a total "tally" for amount of "likes" for each person. Who cares?

To those who don't facepunch, there's multiple votes you can do:
Agree
Disagree
Optimistic
Dumb
Funny
Informative
Useful
Bad Spelling
Late
Artistic
Bad Reading
Polite/Nice/Friendly
and maybe a few more.
Each can be voted on and all of them can show up below the post.
"Parliamentary inquiry, Mr. Chairman - do we have to call the Gentleman a gentleman if he's not one?"
I think Karma should just be brought back. People are way too sensitive about it being "abused". Let it show whether people like to up or down your posts. It's not like you're getting anything from it.
This.
The no-cooldown karma was only "abusable" because karma was updated by a glitchy javascript call, enabling one person to downkarma a single post however many times they wanted. If we make karma votes public and fix the way it's implemented, there would no longer be a problem.
(People getting butthurt because of negative karma should think of it this way: some sad lifeform living in their mother's basement is wasting their time combing through all your posts. While announcing to the internet who he is..)

As DTBK said, just bring Karma back. It doesn't affect anything so there's no abuse to speak of and as previously discussed it can help reduce spam.
I also like the idea of not being able to give negative Karma.
Actually, I posted an idea for a "like" system in the staff forum a few months ago. I was told that karma was going to come back, and that was pretty much the end of the thread. Our karma system was shitty beyond belief.
This was the graphic I made for the thread I started:
None.
Anything works as long as there is no "dislike" or "negative" button (which I never championed in my original post).
Yeah we did have the Karma system but IIRC you only see your karma points not who gave you the points and what not (again, no dislike or negative options). Also, the Karma seems to be cumulative, based on all of your posts on this site. I was actually pushing for something where you can "like" individual posts and not your "karma" throughout this website as a whole.
Maybe we could have a combination of both. Bring back Karma which is for everything you've done on this site, and implement the "liking" system to individual posts which adds Karma points, only that you can see who exactly is liking which posts. But again, I more strongly advocate the "Liking" systemEDIT: No, the Karma system is nothing like the "Liking" system at all. Karma is about your points, it'll show how much karma you've got (hence where ego comes into play). In fact, i strongly advocate against the Karma system. Again look on Facebook, there are no "points" for liking someone's post/picture/comment/etc. The likes don't add to your "how great of a person you are" gauge - all it does is what it does: shows that a person likes said post. Actually I have to agree. Not having a karma counter that is visible for everyone helps fight the "abuse" of the system because there's even less incentive to "mass-like" a certain users posts.

Do you mean not showing total accumulated karma/likes on profiles, or not showing the number of karma/likes on a post? Because the latter would kinda suck, actually, though the former would be quite helpful.

I mean showing the likes of a post at the post itself, but not showing anywhere a karma tally of all likes you earned.
No. SEN is not facebook. All this Web 2.0 crap is useless and does nothing to improve the site. I'd rather we focused on currency matters (minerals for productive posting), consistent moderation (severity amounts and suspensions), and features that cater to SC2.
Whether we implement it or not, posts like...

Like! Especially to get rid of posts like this....would and should be deleted as spam. The issue I have with bringing back Karma is that the little number on the bottom of the post does absolutely nothing when we remove the ability to see overall Karma. People can + or Like or whatever, and no one would really care. We'll still have people quoting it and responding with "OMG I TOTLY AGREE," thinking that throwing in their two cents (in the form of just claiming they agree) is valid and not spam. If it actually lists names of people who like the post and make it seem like a big deal, that's another story, but as it is now, our Karma system blows.

"Web 2.0" as a concept refers to sites and services where most of the content is user-generated and dynamic. Given that interpretation, SEN is more than 80% "Web 2.0" crap. The forums, DLDB, wiki -- all user-generated.
I do agree that we should focus just a bit more on other things, like SCII content and refining the mineral system, though.
EDIT: @Devlin: I fully agree that names should be displayed.
