The sword and the faith

Some of you may recall the SEN.TV venture DevliN and Devourer were working on. I'm working on a project that isn't exactly SEN related, but I'd like SEN to be included in it.

So I'd like to ask you all, if SEN.TV had been finished, what would you have liked to see on it? SC2 or BW? Tutorials or map reviews? If SEN had a stream, what would you like to see on it?

Diplo games.
A thousand times this.
But some recordings of various processes a mapmaker goes through would be interesting in a nice montage. Some SEN BW games would be nice too.

None.

An artist's depiction of an Extended Unit Death

StarCraft 2 already has a huge stream base, so we'd just be more of the same there. Cecil, for example, already streams his SC2 play at www.twitch.tv/cecilsunkure, and Jack streams SC1 melee at http://www.twitch.tv/sen_birdie.

Streaming tutorials would be at such a low demand (those interested in the tutorial would likely be unable to sync up with the time of the stream; may as well just make a video) that it wouldn't be worth it, in my opinion.

Map reviews are an interesting idea, or just map exposure in general. I know one of the problems that developed in late SC1 UMS was that new players were virtually unwelcome in foreign game genres, and that attitude led to people ignoring new games that they did not know how to play. Having someone play a variety of games and talk about them would be a beneficial experience, I think, in either SC1 or SC2 custom maps.

Though who's to say it needs to stop there? Lots of us are into other Blizzard games or other games in general (I know League of Legends has a good fanbase here, for instance). More exposure to things the community may enjoy would be a good use of such an opportunity. More importantly, if it's streamed by members of the community, it will help us and new members get to learn a little bit more about the members of Sen.

'Course, the pessimist in me says we don't have enough content or motivation to have a stream-like channel that represents this community.

TiKels, General, and I all have replays of possibly the greatest Diplo game ever played. This would definitely have to be its debut program.

We can't just stream... a replay. It was like a two hour game too, not the best material.

We'd have to streamline the map a bit to encourage less turtling so it's faster paced.

I'd say only new games, and perhaps with one person a designated "caster" ingame, who has vision of all the players.

Also you forgot inf.

SENtv was originally meant for members to post videos of map trailers, map reviews, tutorials, and casted replays that would then link back to SEN threads to discuss them. If you wanted to do something similar but through streaming, the only thing I can think of is streaming matches (a la Cecil and Jack), showing trailers for maps (of which we have basically none, so we'd need to make 'em), and maybe reviewing maps.

We could also play horror games like slender. It'd make some good content if we can find someone that people like to watch.

>be faceless void >mfw I have no face

I'd be happy to help if my help is needed, Ex. I've ordered a new microphone, too, which is decent quality (Blue Snowball). I'd like to see both SCII and SCBW, although I prefer BW. I also think tutorials are better off not being streamed unless it's on gameplay rather than mapping, but map reviews would go well with a stream. I'd need to know exactly what the project is like though before I can give better ideas as to what I'd like to see on it :P

I've never understood why sites feel the need to set up their own video service when they could just use YouTube.

I already do Lets Plays of random StarCraft campaigns. I would definitely enjoy doing a map review or something.

Over at Campaign Creations they have something they call Frenzied Firebat Saturdays (I think). I took part in that last weekend; basically a shitload of people get together, hop in their Ventrilo server, play a bunch of SCII maps, and someone who can FRAPS and play on Ultra records it all and uploads it to YouTube. Someone with a decent internet connection can stream it in the same fashion if we get enough people to get on Vent/TS3 and "game on", as it were.

Because YouTube wouldn't have all the videos in one area to browse, wouldn't redirect comments to SEN's threads for the video, and would be on YouTube rather than a service we could code and do whatever we want with it if we decided to add more down the line...

But this forum supports embedding of YouTube videos, so you can effectively have all of that. Having the videos on YouTube gives a chance for a wider audience to see them and come back to SEN, hiding the videos away in our own little video site ensures that no random YouTube surfer watching SC stuff will come across them. Also I'd suggest that having a service which relies on the staff here for coding and support hasn't worked too well overall.

Replace YouTube with any other established video hosting service such as Vimeo as most of them offer something that could be workable.

If for some reason you decide to move to some "other established video hosting service," please don't use Vimeo. I can't be the only one who has a horrible time loading Vimeo films.

Hence why SENtv was never finished and that's exactly what we already do. :ermm:
