We can't explain the universe, just describe it; and we don't know whether our theories are true, we just know they're not wrong. >Harald Lesch

Location limit on scm maps is 63, on scx maps its 254.

Try reusing your locations as there's no way to exceed that limit.
You might want to burrow units at certain spots, so you can center on them without using a seperate location for each.

First of all, please learn how to use proper grammar. Centensises liek dis 1 meaks it herd 2 reed. Ok?

Second, the location limit in StarCraft, and all of its many editors is 255.

This 255 includes one already preplaced location, Location "Anywhere" which is the size of your map. The rest of the locations, 254 are ones that you can place in the editor, where ever you want.

The message is normal and only happens when you attempt to place location 256 which doesn't exist. When you already have the max number of locations, including Location "Anywhere" and you try to make another location, the Error Message Window will appear notifying you that the location limit has been reached and that no more locations will be created, and then the location that you just tried to make will disappear.

This is a wiki article that explains other map limitations that can't be exceeded.

Wow, way to attack on such a small absence of punctuation and capitalization. Give him a break for saying "cus."

Just do as Nude said and recycle locations. In any map you make you want to keep your location amount to a minimum (that goes for anything else with limit as well).

An artist's depiction of an Extended Unit Death

Quote from Brontobyte
I'm having a problem with my editor. The editor I'm using is Scmdraft 2. The problem is when I go to create a location, a strange window appears and states that I have created too many locations. Is this normal? I don't have time to test any of my hypothesizes on this yet because I have to go, but I will later.

-Thank you.

Translation:

...problem with my editor = ...problem with my map
The problem is when = The problem is that whenever
strange window = window

Tada! The point is: nobody is perfect. I did not have any difficulty reading his post. Don't get me wrong; I'd appreciate it if everyone typed without overusing internet abbreviations such at "wut" and "orly." I just think you overreacted on this particular post.

Back on the subject, I would suggest that you try to find ways to conserve on locations. Reusing locations is great, but you don't have to do that if you've been carelessly placing them all over the map. An example of this would be putting locations over beacons that kill your unit when they approach them, rather than having a location follow your unit and kill it when you bring it to a beacon. Knowing that you have a limit on locations, you'll find it easy to conserve. Of course, depending on the size of your map, you may have to reuse locations. The best way I know of has already been posted by NudeRaider, which brings up the question as to why I posted...

Conditions:
- (Time of game, etc.)
Actions:
- Move location labeled "location x" on "burrowed unit/spider mine" owned by "some computer player you don't have vision to (or, if you need to, player 9)"
- (Continue as necessary)

Note: ScmDraft will message you about a location limit for vanilla format when you try to place location 64. This is not the map limit of Broodwar. If the message you received had a confirmation choice of yes and no, you have nothing to fear. You still have plenty of locations left.

I assume that you have not saved your map as a .scx yet, and it is still in .scm form, simply saving it in .scx will quadruple the amount of locations you can use. If you have already saved, please post why you are using so many locations, and I'm sure we can find a more efficient way of doing the same thing.

And if you need to reuse locations and don't want to burrow units try this technique. http://www.staredit.net/files/680/

What's up with the grammar lesson brontobyte? That's just spam, makes this topic hard to read and noone cares about it. Same goes for you Roy. Please stay on topic.

EDIT: And anyway the first post is not that hard to read even if it contains some grammar mistakes...

Actually, you can have 255 locations and non-Broodwar compatibility (a.k.a. map as .scm) if you save it in the hybrid .scm format instead of in the most primitive Vanilla format. Saving as .scx when you don't have to just makes your map inaccessible to people without Broodwar, who already face a much shallower supply of maps than Broodwar players. If you're not using Broodwar units and don't need to change the player colors, you should use the .scm format, because people who do have the expansion pack can play either one.

Oh yeah, I forgot about that, it wasn't around until after 1.07 I believe.
