Cartography Artisan

1.) Reload map, see if it goes away, if not

2.) make a copy of ur map, Download Chkdraft, open up map, open text trig editor, hit compile and save, should clean up all your string problems

Are you maybe over ScmDraft's string limit? You can only have like 1000 strings (forgot the exact number).

I dont want to give out unprotected copies of my map....jjf28.
any tutorials on fixing strings? or any help? I got 331 strings not over 1000 strings yet.

Process your map using UU2/OSMAP2 with right options so you wouldn't lose your comments, location names, or anything else.
Unprotectors are somehow great for fixing broken maps.

You really should PM him your map for research purposes. He is making a map editor and wants to prevent string corruption, after all.

Did you try deleting the corrupt strings like I suggested? You can delete them in ScmDraft's string editor.

It depends on how the strings were corrupted. A lot of times this happens when you use multiple editors, and one of them screws up your strings. Most of the time, this is from when ScmDraft recycles strings and then Starforge or Xtra Editor has no idea how to handle these. I'd recommend you only use ScmDraft for editing your map, as it has all the features any other editor provides.

You could PM the map to me and I can fix the corrupted strings if deleting them doesn't work (though I can't possibly imagine why deleting them wouldn't work).

If i delete the strings what happened then?

EDIT: I tried deleting the strings they werent there like certain numbers are missing.
and is a map fine with messed up strings? What if i just let my strings be messed up and
keep making my map?

Creating new strings will probably put them where the corrupt strings are. The editor is probably warning you that they're corrupt because they don't exist / are missing. Create some new strings and see if that clears up the issue.

I wouldn't recommend continuing your map with corrupt string errors because they sometimes bring about other issues within the map, but as long as you're properly saving backups of your map there shouldn't be a major concern about it.

Whipped this up, obviously I can't be certain it works in your case without your map ;)

As always, have a backup before using such a program.

I had this issue relatively recently as well. It happened when I was making a location and I must have named it something poorly. After that I kept getting the string corruption message, but I believe it told me what string it was (something like "Location 63"). So I went into the string editor (it's in SCMDraft, where it lists all the strings) and simple deleted that string. Then no more string corruption errors.

Does it tell you the name of the string? I believe it might look like a normal string in the list, but apparently it is still corrupted. As far as I know it doesn't make the map unplayable or broken, but only an annoying hinderance when using the editor.

I'd send the map before and after fixing it, but I'm terrible at version control.

No, just the number.
