If anyone's a demon hunter I've realized a few things:
1. You're a glass cannon... a glass cannon that can do cartwheels and turn invisible.
2. It's a kiting class.
3. Direct damage comes first followed by AOE (wizards are presumed better at AOE).
4. Must have Smokescreen and Preparation. Some people like vault instead of smokescreen, but I always get a good chuckle when they get rooted by a jailing special and cant get out.
Luckily demon hunters have a lot of great skills so it's hard to get bored or feel isolated to a single build that everyone else uses. They can basically do any build until the harder modes (more stress on kiting, slowing down enemies)
My normal build (Hell):
Primary: Hungering Arrow > Devouring Arrow
(if it pierces, goes for another unit for 115% + 70% can continues if it pierces again. Used to have Bola Shot > Volatile Explosives but it kept setting off my critical sharpshooter. Gonna miss the awesome AOE :'( )Secondary: Elemental Arrow > Frost Arrow
(slows, good for kiting and impressive damage for cost)Rain of Vengeance > Beastly Bombs
(for awesomeness, also might get Flying Strike if it looks good)Marked For Death > Valley of Death
(more damage against enemies)Smokescreen > Lingering Fog
(breaks roots and enemies don't attack)Preparation > Battle Scars
(Instant refill of discipline and + 65% of total life, great fail-safe)My boss build
Bola Shot > Thunder Ball
(35% chance to stun bossImpale > Chemical Burn
(250% weapon damage, +125% per second over 2 seconds. Impact is much better to constantly stun the boss with Thunder ball, but I'm not sure if it works on the final act bosses.Rain of Vengeance > Beastly Bombs
Marked For Death > Mortal Enemy
(single targets the boss and attacks give you hatred)Smokescreen > Displacement
(extra movement speed for those tough moments)Preparation > Battle Scars

Yes it felt out of place for me as well, I was completely confused with why I was fighting this boss in particular with nothing leading me up to it. Also I checked out the Diablo 1 fight (never played diablo 1 only diablo 2) and I felt the build up and atmosphere was great, which of none was present in leading up to the Butcher in Diablo 3. Also the fight was okay, a little forgettable. Felt it could've been better for an act ender boss.
Also I take this back, on after seeing what the boss was in Diablo 1 and seeing it again in my Nightmare playthrough I realized the buildup of the last part was faithful, but in connection with the entire act... didn't make alot of sense
Sounds strangely familiar to SC2, except I was more engrossed in that than D3. Great game, ruined by business pursuits.
I've already lost faith in Blizzard, and it doesn't seem like they've corrected their business models. Blizzard/Activision are definitely taking advantage of our weaknesses. We are apparently so fixed on getting this game that we'd ignore everything else.
I agree, all this "always online" among other new crap to come out of huge gaming publishers like removing rented games, locking games, and DLC that was already in a game but hidden and sold again which showed that they hid the content just to make a profit off additional DLC (COUGH MASS EFFECT COUGH).
I liked Blizzard before the Activision/Blizzard combination since Activsion... blows. For ... many reasons.
Game is good, business pursuits retarded, and consumers/ game informers need to realize that these business pursuits that do no good to the consumer need to stay away. Also support indie gaming!
