I've been working full time as a software development engineer over the summer. I'm going back to grad school for my Master's in CS though, the company sucks.

What graduate school are you going to? Is it really worth it to get a master's in CS? I'm probably going to be a software engineer.

Win by luck, lose by skill.

Master's is the new Bachelors, apparently.

The same state school I went for my BS, we have a 5 year program and I didn't apply anywhere else. I also think I'd probably fail out of a good school because I don't know shit.

One of my professors said it ends up paying for itself after 3-5 years and you have more potential for advancement within the field, but he also has probably never even worked in the field and just wants me to help him with robotics research because I can actually speak English well unlike 90% of the other CS grad students. To be perfectly honest I'm just not really ready for the real world yet, and this job is boring as shit.

Considering today's economy and job market, that is very true.

Same can't be said for PhDs' though. One of my TA's last year was in his last semester as a PhD student and was applying for all sorts of jobs. Almost every good company he's gone to, they would see his resume and go "Hmmm... Research Assistant, good... Work Experience... very good... Good GP- oh wait, you're a PhD student? Sorry we don't hire PhD's" *hands resume back*. He even joked once that he contemplated scratching out the PhD part from his resumes because apparently PhD's can only get certain jobs (research related) and not the ones most people would normally go into. The reasoning behind this is because PhD's are overqualified for entry/mid level jobs and/or are too "expensive."

This is not to say that a PhD is bad (I may want one eventually). It did make me think twice about it though.

Many PhD's have done Masters. So if I were in his position, I'd definitely just list the Masters degree.

Depends which field you're in. The field I worked in requires at least a masters and preferably a PhD and they will pay you according to your initial qualifications. So research your field more carefully.
