Okay, I've tried and tried to persevere through the god awful galaxy editor.
What with its fucking bugs that glitches almost every time I click the wrong thing
Redundant amts of fields, values, and what not. Zero user-friendly interface besides the command card. Fucking laggy programming (and this is on my new beast of a laptop, so it is not my comp's fault) Having to fucking copy Actors and Effects and Behaviours when it really should've been All copied as a whole, and there really should've been TWO TABS ONLY - UNITs AND ABILITIES, with the Rest as fucking backup!

I still haven't been able to make a new unit by copying a hydralisk, nor a new hero by copying an Infestor

Everyone's fine except the model never shows up and I always get these messages
Quote from fucking retarded editor
[3/30/2011 11:00:36 PM] Warning: Got NULL model when trying to set CModel[Hydralie].
[3/30/2011 11:12:43 PM] Warning: Got NULL model when trying to set CModel[Hydralie].
[3/30/2011 11:35:04 PM] Warning: Got NULL model when trying to set CModel[TESTHEROOMG].
[3/30/2011 11:38:22 PM] Warning: Got NULL model when trying to set CModel[TESTHEROOMG].

I've followed the tutorials 100%, and I've even tried to figure things out myself, but to no avail.

I'm also STILL Struggling to find where the fucking "Channeling" is, cause it's not in the god damn "Cost" field anymore.

I Also can't seem to add the Spine Crawler's weapon to the Infestor Hero.. But since I can't even get thru the create a unit hurdle without raging and getting a huge headache from the ridiculousness that is galaxy editor, I've lost all motivation to try and wade through this shit-fest.

The only way I can ever get through this is with help.
And this is where you smug-asses can smirk all you want. GO AHEAD!!

thanks

OVERWATCH STATUS GO

Though the Actors, Behaviors, etc. aren't copied as a whole, you can have them all checked when duplicating, so it does copy all of them together. The reason why it doesn't copy as a whole is because you can duplicate specific things from a unit if you don't want everything, or manipulate one specific thing at a time.

It is important for the editor to have multiple tabs because that is what lets you actually customize your units, abilities, etc. rather than just changing the same fields. Without those extra tabs, you wouldn't be able to really modify the specific Effects, Behaviors, Models, etc. that are copied and/or created from scratch. The idea is that you're supposed to get good enough at using the editor so that you can start to make units from scratch, and know how to manipulate the Model or Actor to get a specific effect.

You're getting those errors because the Unit is trying to link to a Model that doesn't exist. Unless you have created the custom Model called "Hydralie," that doesn't exist in the editor. For each of those units giving you an error, select the Actor and find "Art - Model." Change that to whatever Model you want the unit to look like. That should fix it.

Okay to make an ability "Channeling," find "Effect - Flags" under the Effect of your Ability (I believe this is usually a Create Persistent effect). As it is a "Create Persistent" effect, you can set the "Effect - Period Count" and "Effect - Period Duration" to reflect how long it should last. If your Ability doesn't have a "Create Persistent" effect, you can add one as a middle man so that when you start the Ability, the "Create Persistent" Effect is the first Effect to activate, and then once the Period Duration is up, it will execute whichever Effect you have set as "Effect Expire." I know that may sound complicated, but it really isn't if you just think about it as a chain with each link doing a specific task to trigger the next Effect.

When you say add the Spine Crawler weapon to the Infestor Hero, are you saying you want another tentacle to attack, or you want the properties of the Spine Crawler's weapon to be applied instead of the Infestors? If you're talking about the first part, then you need to attach a Spine Crawler to the Infestor and that is a complex task. If you mean the second part, then you just change the weapon like normal.

An artist's depiction of an Extended Unit Death

Quote from UnholyUrine
Alas, after many attempt, I am unable to persevere through the Galaxy Editor. I could rant about its flaws, but I will instead get straight to the point.

I still haven't been able to make a new unit by copying a hydralisk, nor a new hero by copying an Infestor

Everything's fine except the model never shows up and I always get these messages:
Quote from helpful error messages

What's even more perplexing, however, is that "Channeling" has been relocated from the "Cost" field, and I can no longer find it.

I also can't seem to add the Spine Crawler's weapon to the Infestor Hero... But that is an issue that should be handled once this former one has been resolved.

The only way I can ever get through this is with help.
And this is where you talented members of SEN can pitch in. YOU'RE AWESOME!!

thanks
The model error looks like it may have been caused by improperly duplicating the unit. Did you make sure to check all necessary fields during duplication, including the actors and models? Do you get these errors in-game or as a pop-up in the editor?

You should be able to add weapons to units under Combat - Weapons - Weapon. If you're adding it to a unit that couldn't normally attack, you may have to add some things like the attack ability.

Edit: Probably should have refreshed to see DevliN's post.
