2nd News Portal?

Relatively ancient and inactive

I'd advise creating a 2nd news portal where any member can post any news about SCII and it'd automatically be updated - but it'll be moderated, so if it's unfitting, it'd be removed. I think a system where everything has to be approved doesn't appeal and seems more formal than a system that auto-approves.

Alternately, you can just change current rules to fit these instead. Your choice. Maybe tabbed portals? :P

OVERWATCH STATUS GO

Any Admin/Global Mod can approve News posts, and it seems like one of us is on at any given point during the day (I just leave SEN open at work, myself). I think the reason it isn't an auto-approve system now is to prevent spam and/or dumb topics that aren't news-worthy.

As it is, our news 'blog' is very boring. Well, whatever.

:payne:

So basically, it's a Twitter function inside SEN? :P
gg noobs invading :O

No but seriously, I think this -could- become great, but what would people actually advertise? You could just put the latest updated production thread bumped back to the news portal and it'd basically be most of the things we'll get, I think. :O

I don't think this is necessary. Anyone who actually has relevant news can make a topic in News. It's not that hard, and I haven't heard anything along the lines of people having trouble getting things approved in a timely manner.

A 2nd news portal sounds like too much. Simplification will ultimately be more attractive to new users. Besides, we have a news portal. How 'bout we just use it more? :P

I just think that if we have one for exciting new maps released by our members and one for more sober stuff like contests and site revamps, it'll do SEN some good.

Or we make a contest forum, throw those posts in there, and then use News as News. I understand where the idea came from (I mentioned something similar in another forum), and doing something like SC2Mapster would be nice. But then again, we don't have that many projects worth advertising that are originally from SEN.

As others have pointed out, anyone can post news in there, too.

We have so few of these projects (none) that some publicity for them would help. It'll also give people more reason to post them here.

Except if everyone posts it in the news portal then why post it there? Also the DLDB should help, too.

I think we should have some sort of "Highlights of the Week" news topic which displays one to a few accomplishments made throughout that week (or day, semi-weekly, etc.). The admins and mods, or possibly a user vote, can decide which maps, tutorials, or anything else is worthy of attention, and deserves to be displayed on the portal page.
