Last night, SCM Draft2 made a 2 gigabyte backupDB file :S Unfortunately that was all the space I had on C:\ and the program went coocoo. There must have been some sort of leak.

I honestly don't know what to do to retrieve maps if you can't access the DB anymore and are forced to delete it.
*Maybe* it helps truncating the files' last MBs to make it smaller than 2GB which (afaik) is the max filesize windows can handle. Use a file splitter, WinRAR with 1,99GB chunk sizes, or a Hex Editor to truncate it. I'd try that before deleting. Purely hypothetical, but worth a shot.

Otherwise I can just recommend to regularly check the DB size and delete entries you don't need to prevent future problems.

An artist's depiction of an Extended Unit Death

While we're talking about relativity, this isn't necessarily a mapmaking question ("reasons to save backups..."). Actually, there wasn't really a question.

If you're working on maps with sound files in them, your backup files will climb rather quickly. I used to open Backup Database periodically and clear out some backup maps, but it doesn't seem to help. I would agree with your memory leak assumption.

The number of posts containing little more than their posters backupDB size was becoming overwhelming, forcing me to delete them all. Feel free to repost any helpful thoughts on that issue if they got deleted along the way.

I do stuff and thingies... Try widening and reducing the number of small nooks and crannies to correct the problem.

Classic thanks. Those are some settings that I've neglected to acknowledge. I guess they demanded the attention. I set my backup maps to 2, just curious if the timer for this is the same for the auto save. Other then that, all is good, I deleted most of them from the DB. Like someone said above its probably the music files that cranks it up so high but even so, 2 gig is a bit much for a 300kb map.

O)FaRTy1billion[MM] -- below the minimap should be a thing that says "Overlay Settings" with a little + button in the corner, press the + to expand it, uncheck Use Defaults, then change "Tile Overlay" to "Height"

Sylph-Of-Space -- It would be so so so nice if SCMDraft had some kind of dedicated "walkability" view for the tilesets.
