CHANGES
(10/15/17)

- Updated the text colors file with all colors
- Added all AI scripts
- Added all unused units (no longer crash the game)
- Added a new version that allows buildings to be placed off of the grid (the old style is called Snap)
- Re-organized some of the unit listings (Map Revealer now has its own category)
- Addons are now owned by the player and aren't neutral

--------------------------------

I am currently working on a map editor for StarCraft and StarCraft Remasted (version 1.18 and above). The primary focus with this editor is to remove most of the restrictions on units and upgrades. You can also place units that aren't normally available (Zerg Egg, Cacoon, Scanner Sweep, etc).

Features

Additional units (Zerg Eggs, Scanner Sweep, etc)
Updated unit listing
Less placement restrictions
Upgrade limit increased to 255

Known Bugs

- Unable to change units from one player to another
- Unable to select buildings by clicking on them (not fixable)

Installation

StarEdit.exe must be located in the default folder path for the application to load
Default path: "C:\Program Files (x86)\StarCraft\StarEdit.exe"
If you have StarEdit.exe installed in another directory you can create a symbolic link from the default directory to the custom directory
Command to Create Symbolic Link: MKLINK "C:\Program Files (x86)\StarCraft\StarEdit.exe" "C:\StarCraft\StarEdit.exe"
MKLINK DefaultDirectory CustomDirectory
Tutorial: https://www.sevenforums.com/tutorials/278262-mklink-create-use-links-windows.html

While we all appreciate more people who are interested in designing tools, what is the impetus to make maps in your editor over SCMDraft?

IMO SCMDraft is to complicated for new mappers. I am shooting for something more like the OG SCXE.

Making the jump from staredit to scmdraft is a very tiny leap... If you want to create an intermediate editor for your own sort of hobby project, go for it, but I simply don't see the necessity.

The original post has been updated with the latest version and I link to a site that will always have the latest version listed.

Again, if you have any questions or comments please let me know here. I will do my best to answer them in a timely manner!

It's cool that you are using the original interface, I've always preferred the look of staredit over scmdraft.

Math + Physics + StarCraft = Zoan

Three questions:

1. Can you place square tiles?
2. Can you place arbitrarily sized locations?
3. Can you write text-triggers using something like SCMDraft's Trigger Editor?

[quote=name:Zoan]Three questions:

Unfortunately the editor cannot do that.

The highest thing on my priority list right now is square terrain and changing player colors. I don't know if any of your suggestions are possible with the knowledge that I have. From what I've read you have to make a custom program to do that (not possible through a simple data mod).

An artist's depiction of an Extended Unit Death

I understand you're trying to fill a niche demand of an editor that is simpler to use and/or more familiar than ScmDraft, but your project sounds remarkably similar to X-tra Editor. Are you looking to go beyond what that editor has to offer, or is this project more of a learning experience for you?

That being said, the last time I used X-tra was ages ago, and I vaguely recall it having issues running on modern operating systems. Still, it was beloved by many back in the day, so you may find it to be a useful reference material for your own project.

That is exactly what I am trying to mirror. I haven't been able to get SCXE working in ages. I run a Windows 10 PC now and it just doesn't work no matter what I try. It is also a learning experience. I kind of wish I knew about modding StarEdit when I was a little kid!

I LOVE the original map editor for trigger editing. I only use SCM draft for terrain and unit placement purposes. Perhaps I will give this tool a try!
