I'm trying to use Farty's overlap generator for unit names but I don't know how colours are supposed to work.

If I try to do something like this:
<13><06>Seneras<12><06>Seneras<14>WW.

the text doesn't overlap.

If I do what the overlap generator says:
<13>Seneras<12>Seneras<14>WWWWWW....

It stacks - but obviously there's no colours.

Also I've seen unit names on Metal Gear's RPGs that have crazy long unit names, so is there a way to bypass the unit name limit that I don't know about?



EDIT:
Ok I went into the string editor and manually put the colours in - and that worked. I'm guessing that's how people are bypassing the string limit on unit names too. Does doing this sort of thing run the risk of corrupting the game or anything?

It's a shame SCMDraft doesn't have string limit on unit names just unrestricted as default. Maybe CHKDRAFT will do this? ;)

No risk of corruption. You can also bypass the issue by copy/pasting directly into the text box.

You can have readable, super-long names on units loaded in dropships, you can also double up a string displayed by triggers and a unit name (the unit will use the "short version" and the triggers the "long version")

Cause people can use/come up with cool tricks like this i'm extremely hesitant to put any such limits in place.

I think he means that when you're editing a unit name in Unit Settings, the name can only be as long as the bar is.

With the modern EUD editors, I don't think they're calculating nearly as many offsets as you might imagine. Still some fancy ass work that I'm sure took a ton of effort
