Ok so I finished my map and I used Uberation to protect it. When I go to play the game, the triggers are getting messed up and moved around. Is there a way to prevent this or should i use a different protector? If a different protector then what would be a good one? Thanks in advance

If you're looking for a light, efficiant protection use
http://www.staredit.net/topic/10081/If someone knew what he was doing he could unprotect it ez, but this will stop alot of random people from opening/rigging it

alright thx. is there a way to stop the strings from messing up? The process I do it is; Open Uberation, Open (Map), Hit Uberize, Save Map (With different name), Then play the map.

All of the protectors prior to tinimap that I know of had some string problems

Scratch that, I should learn to read
The point of protection is jagging the various parts of the map around, adding and removing things to a point where it technically isn't even a StarCraft map anymore because so many conventions of the .scx file format are broken.
Knowing this you should realize that any protector that deserves calling itself such will corrupt your map beyond editablity. What you do is keep an unprotected version on your hdd and work with that. Whenever you want to test or distribute a new version on bnet you protect it and put it on bnet, but still keep an unprotected copy.
You could try saving your map with an alternative editor like SCXE or Starforge because ScmDraft 2 recycles strings which might be a problem for older protectors.

You must not know of a lot of protectors. Special Protector, Shadow Protector, Starforge's Protection, GUEdit, Toki's Protection, PROEdit, and probably some I'm forgetting all didn't ruin the strings (although a few of them did
other annoying things like remove wav files, and some of them have really pathetic protection), even with string recycling (I think; I haven't used things like PROEdit in ages). Uberation is notorious for doing weird things on protection, and I wouldn't rely on it to keep my map the way it was before protection.
Since there isn't a protection that cannot be unprotected (even obscure programs have obscure unprotectors), you might as well go for compression, so that download speeds are faster and people are more likely to play your game. TinyMap is perfect for this.
Thanks for the help guys! Very useful!

Special Protector 2 didn't ruin them, but caused some of them to error (ie: I saw a string from another trigger run where it wasen't supposed to) but yea I only used like 3 protectors in my time
btw,
Special Protector 2 is decent against unprotectors people default too like OSMAP

After I protect the map. I cant see it if i try to look for it with SCM Draft 2 right? is that the same for other common editors? or did i just fail at protecting it haha
Ok well i think i found what the problem might be??? It seems that after i protect the map, when i play the game, it starts displaying comments that i had for my triggers. Would the map work perfectly if i just remove all the comments?

You have to save it with the file extension. When naming the save, you should call it something like "MyMap.scx" so SC knows it's a map file. It will still be visible for editors, but they will give an error when you try to open it.

Are you still using Uberation? Uberation explodes from string recycling, and it should not be used if you used SCMDraft to make the map. TinyMap is more stable than many protectors because it can handle string recycling.
No I first tried TinyMap but i couldnt figure out how to protect with that.
Next I am trying ProEdit and i got it to protect, but its displaying random comment msgs, and i just noticed some of the Names on the units arent what i had them as
Any Ideas?
At the moment, i dont care for compression, i just want it protected and working

Open the map.
Save the map (don't forget to put the ".scx" at the end of the file name).
The map you saved is compressed and protected.

Honestly, compression is more important than protection, because anyone can unprotect the map if they have the know-how. A smaller map will almost always guarantee more downloads, though, and if you want to see your map spread, it's the preferable choice.
omg its working!!! Thank u so much for putting up with my stupidity when it comes to this!!! haha
