I am wondering which would be better for my dad to get himself for when he rides his motorcycle. I don't know anything about either of the products since I use PSP as my main use of entertainment but he has a different use for whatever he might get. Below are a couple of notes that my dad is looking for.

-Doesn't want to download things to his computer if he doesn't have to... This means no iTunes if he doesn't have to
-Something small... but has a nice readable screen so that he can see it going down the road at 60 mph
-Able to do: music, video, and pictures would all be nice
-Shuffle is a must with music
-High disk capacity. Something above 50 GBs
-Would be cool if the color was black... That is also the color of his motorcycle
-Able to produce a lot of high volume music. High volume is a must when also dealing with wind going by your ears

Thanks on any suggestions that anyone might have...

If he doesn't want itunes, he should get a zune, although you have to install a program.
Overall, get an ipod if you want something stylish and small.
Get a zune if you want something with big screens and is well worth overall.

I think the Zune would be a better fit. It is also available in black.

Ive had my zune for a year and a half about, and its the greatest MP3/Video player ive ever used. I had an Ipod. I like my Zune a lot better. However, the 30GB is more than enough space and is a great modle. I suppose you can grab the 80GB if you really have the money to spend though.

The 80 GB is only like what, 50$ more? I think it is worth it if you do the ratio and figure it out.

If he's gonna be riding a motorcycle while listening to it, you'd definately want to go with one of the flash models, but none of those go over 50GBs yet.

Seems like I got my answer... And yea, he doesn't mind paying the extra $50 for the 80GB because you never know when you actually might be needing it... lol

Actually last night I decided all I really need said is for someone(s) to accurately describe the differences between them (from a neutral point of view, please. No blatant"X is obviously superior to Y.", that doesn't help.)

The cheapest prices I found are:
iPod Classic, 80 GB - $236.67
Zune, 80 GB - $238.76
So, with them so close I can't decide by that.

Zunes have a 3-inch screen versus a 1.8-inch screen on the iPod. They both operate at 320x240, but there doesn't seem to be any loss in quality on the Zune, as far as I can tell. Zunes have a lower battery life at about 20 hours. I don't know what the iPod is rated at. The headphone quality on the Zunes is greater than the quality of the iPod, but if you already have your own pair of good headphones it won't matter. The menus on the Zune are more intuitive and faster to navigate than the iPod ones. Zunes have a really useful reverse sync feature with computers, which saved me a lot of time get all my music over to my new computer. Wireless sync is pretty nice for podcasts.

MOAR: The downsides of the Zune is that it comes with no AC charger. You can only use the USB one, unless you have a dock. Also, the software is a little weak. I don't use it for lack of mini-player functionality.

Ive been using the 30 GB version for about 1.5 years, and I have had no trouble at all. I suggest you look into it. You also said you wanted high capacity, and there is a 60GB version of it as well.

The most I can find is 16GB ZEN... but I'll keep looking.
$299.99 for a 30GB?! No. I get 2.67 times the amount of memory for more than $50 cheaper.

Hm.. Larger screen size is a plus if I decide to put videos on it. Battery life may be a plus if I am away for an extended period of time (overnight elsewhere, on a road trip, etc.) Reverse sync? Copying files to the computer, I assume? I have Tune-Tools for that, and I can easily copy my entire library from my backup hdd. I don't think I'd use podcasts... I hardly know what a podcast is.
AC charger is definitely a plus.
All of my siblings have iPod. Too bad my sister still doesn't have the roommate with the Zune. I'd ask them.

Is there anywhere I can find a list of features and pros/cons of each one? That'd help a lot.

The thing I've noticed about feature by feature comparisons is that they tend to be a little bias. They may add or subtract features to boost one's score.

These are all talking about extra features, online shopping, and accessories. All I want is a simple mp3 player with plenty of space. >.> I don't plan on getting accessories, I don't use the iTunes Store, I wouldn't use an FM radio. I am leaning toward Zune's larger screen for my video collections, but then again I already have iTunes and some iPod-formatted music (some protected, I think.) It's too balanced. >< I hate competative companies/products for this type of situation.

Ipod it up, especially if most of your family have ipods

iPod has more DRM than Zune...

Zunes will also get game support soon, which will be far superior to silly clickwheel games. I don't know if that'll affect your decision.
