I have no idea what to put here... So I guess I'll just put this here.
I find Minecraft to be amazing. And I got around 3 servers running right now. (And can play the game along with them being up)
Fun game to play when you got a couple friends playing with you... Can get boring though, which is sad. :l
I thought of some exchange rates for trading, since commerce is an indisposable part of any multiplayer game.
Wood, being easily obtainable and universally useful/having intrinsic value, will be the base currency. Because every player will gather wood at some pace which is not significantly faster or slower than others, it is a good measure of "time expenditure", or proof-of-work.
We define a time unit as the amount of time it takes for one item to finish smelting, or roughly 10 seconds. Potion brewing costs 2 time units per potion.
Defined base exchange rates:
1 wood = 4 wood planks = 8 sticks
1 time unit = 1 cobblestone
1 wood = 1 smooth stone
64 smooth stone = 3 iron bar
3 iron bar = 1 gold bar = 1 diamond
Derived exchange rates:
8 coal = 8 charcoal = 8 wood + 1 coal
7 coal = 8 wood64 wood = 56 coal/charcoal
6 blaze rod = 8 coal64 wood = 42 blaze rod
1 smooth stone = 1 cobblestone + 1/8 coal + 1 time unit = 2 cobblestone + 9/64 wood
55/64 smooth stone = 2 cobblestone
1 smooth stone = 2.327 cobblestone64 smooth stone = 149 cobblestone
1 iron bar = 1 iron ore + 1/8 coal + 1 time unit
64/3 wood = 1 iron ore + 8/56 wood + 64/149 wood
20.761 wood = 1 iron ore1329 wood = 64 iron ore
1365 wood = 64 iron bar

Reminds me of something funny that happened to me... With my first house... Highest you could possibly go. Then I put lava in it for an incinerator to get rid of the useless junk that I didn't need, and next thing I knew, my house burned down and I went falling to the ground below... Luckily I finished the pool I made so I wasn't dead, but my house was gone... Realized I should've used cobblestone or something that wouldn't burn next to the lava. xD

If it takes 10 seconds to smelt something, shouldn't 1 time unit be worth much more than just 1 cobblestone?
Win by luck, lose by skill.
Because you can simultaneously smelt many things at the same time. I put it equal to one cobblestone as that's what I think is an appropriate value for one smelting operation.
None.
With the latest weekly snapshot adding iron items to the drop list of Zombies, iron tools and ingots have been significantly devalued. The new exchange rate shall set Iron at 20% of their old values.
