I tried out the Technic modpack to be a bit disappointed. There's such a huge range of content that it's overwhelming, and some of the mods are gamebreaking (like the wood chopping one). Spawning in a jungle is like instantly giving you an inventory full of wood.

The Tekkit modpack, however, is far better, without the gamebreaking elements. I think Equivalent Exchange doesn't mesh with the rest of the genre, since it's not really something that fits in modern engineering.

More thoughts on Tekkit:

So the EE mod does add a much needed repair feature, but I think it's a bit too broken for any real game mechanic.



To get forty of that high class blue powder all I had to use was one diamond and one piece of coal. That's just not very equivalent of an exchange. Repairing should take less than it would be to build a new item, but not so little. And the amount needed to fix the item should correspond to how broken the item is. Additionally, enchanted items should require additional resources, and the higher level the enchantments, the more resources it should require. That way it doesn't feel like you're getting a free pass and you have to work to keep your favorite pickaxe pristine and shiny.

Oh man I've been playing around with IC so much I haven't even touched anything else. I got a miner machine up and working on powering it (it's kinda sputtering with an incomplete solar flower attached to it).

I quickly see how a nuclear reactor can be attractive (especially with overclock upgrades), but a mere solar flower or two is enough for now. Although my house is more of a hodgepodge with ridiculous additions. I need to demolish and rebuild it far better.

I was also wrong before, takes 64 coal to make one diamond. And that's just downright sexy.

I think EE was added to fill the chemistry gap that was missing, but alchemy is all magic-y, so it ruins the ambiance of the rest of the content. But on the other hand we have enchantments in vanilla MC, so that may be why they felt they had to bridge a gap between that all of these machines.



EDIT:

I finished redesigning most of my house into a more IC friendly manner. More room for wiring, machines, space for expansion. I've yet to add a basement that was also going to be for cable management.



Old house. It was very ugly, and very poorly designed.




That was the main room in the basement. Fairly well organized, but it was in the basement, which I had to climb up a wall then back down to get to (and since I spent 90% of my time there, fff-). Terrible for cable management since it was underground and I was trying to run off of solar power.




New house! And new texture pack. Far better designed than old house, that pavilion on top is for cable management for solar flowers, which get imbedded into the top. I left my old solar flowers that I moved during the redesign, though, I may move them once I install more solar flowers, but I should be okay for now.




Inside of new house. Far better machine management and a few aesthetic details, also lots of space. The trench is a cable leading to a miner at the back of the house, I'm excavating everything under my house since that's where the power supply is.

All of my energy is 100% solar, and no real complaints. I can run all of my machines without draining any power, and I have two batboxes in the event it rains. The only real power drain is my miner, which sputters along without enough EU to support constant mining, since it has a diamond drill and OD scanner (or OV, if that's the better one).

Although, still no upgrades on any of my machines yet, although I had two overclock upgrades but a creeper blew up the machine that had them while I was constructing the house (grr). But right now I'm working on just making solar panels, so I'll be cranking out some medium level EUs eventually.

So Im planning on writing a program that handles casino style gambling, handled by log in info and money inserted by industrial credits from IC (A physical currency that cant be built, only obtained), as well as paying out when finished.

Now I THINK Sac joined the previous server I posted here, though with that trash server going down the shitter, lingunz and I have been working on a much better server, with the same Economy and balance tweaks for tekkit.

Ill post the link later. We're gonna need people to play, as fluff, and so that if we CAN somehow get donations rolling from going public. We're going to try to find a way to get this badboy on Creeperhost when things are going.

Yeah it was me. I built myself to be one of the more respected and influential members, also the wealthiest non-town member.

I agree, though, that the server is going down the shitter, but that's due to Malice's incompetence being a server administrator. He's really not fit for the position. The server setup, on the other hand, is pretty nice. But I have a few variations I'd be willing to make.

1) XL biomes, to better promote an economy, it's too easy right now to set up in the vicinity of three or four biomes and have everything you could want.

2) Solars were nerfed too badly, they need to be increased by 2x, at least.

3) Keep in quantum armor, nerf both quantum and nano armor, make them drain energy twice as quickly.

4) Perhaps add in a nerfed nano saber (6-8 damage).

Most of this is good input, however as it stands, there is no way to nerf quantum, nano, or the saber. As for nano though, we're going to make it much more expensive, probably 2 or 3 times the coal. Solars were set to 10% on that server, we're aiming at 17.5%, but we might be going higher. As for biomes, we're looking at getting a lot more diversity, and a lot less ore.

By diversity do you mean more kinds of ore per biome or just more biomes?

The scarcity among biomes is what drove trading really to begin with, the need for trade would increase with larger biomes.

Diversity in biomes, with emphasis on harder to find things.

However, we do have things much MUCH more scarce. There isnt mountains filled to the damn brim with copper.

Scarcity within a biome doesn't matter much if each biome is within a stone's throw of one another.

Sacrieur's idea of making the biomes much larger is a great solution to the problem he presented. It could be used in conjunction with scarcity within biomes, but that wouldn't be a replacement for the economic effect he's describing. His idea would help stop globalized resources, whereas the one you've described would help stop general resource abundance.

Well the biomes certainly seem much larger, which will help. I only saw the hills, beach, and plains biomes though despite traveling some distance, so I guess that's good.
