So, i'm trying to... err... 'Reconfigure' my computer, but i keep getting denied access to certain files. Is there any way to bypass this?

Get administrative rights. Get on an admin account.

How do? I only have one profile on my computer, and it already has administrative rights.

I assume you have Windows 7.

If your account is an administrative account, give us more detail on what files you're messing with.

you can try a diagnostic startup, sometimes services such as ProtexisLiscensing are specifically there to prevent editing of certain files.

Start, Run, MsConfig, diagnostic startup

And of course remove read only property and give yourself all permissions to it.

Alternatively use a file shredder

I'm trying to extend certain restrictions on a program.

Right-click -> Properties -> Permissions.

If you're not getting the responses you want, you're going to have to be much more specific. What file is it? What program is it for? What restrictions are you trying to change? What is your OS?

What do I do here? My brother isn't home, so I can't really ask him anything...

you already have full control, you don't need more permissions; if i might ask, when do you get the message "access is denied" (what are you trying to do when you get the message)

I'm trying to save a coded document.

It might be where you're trying to save it. I know a lot of programs that will refuse to save in Program Files, for example.

Try saving it in your Documents folder.

I'll give it a try, thanks.

windows 7 works on a limited account always. UAC allows you to temporarily upgrade to admin. Not all programs are compatible with UAC and will display an error message rather than pull up the UAC prompt.

IMO this is windows' fault, but who knows.

It would help if we knew what program it actually is.

I'm not sure if this is causing the problem or not, but I am a strong believer that UAC is junk and should be disabled, so if OP hasn't already... well, do it.

Some files are by default inaccessible even to admins, but an admin can always change the permissions on those, taking ownership first if necessary.
