Also, I tipped the pizza guy very well because this is the first major storm of the year. The roads weren't great and he still showed up ten minutes before the time they quoted. Rockin.

See, you aren't a bitch, you probably treated him better than anyone else would =P

As for me, I tip when they deserve it. That means generally anyone, if they're good at their job. Of course, I don't have much space for work, so I can't tip a huge amount. Makes me feel bad ._.

I never go anywhere it's possible (usual) to tip.

EDIT:
I just saw the rest of this thread's title and figured I'd mix in some more of that. I don't tip delivery-people and I don't tip bellhops at hotels (though I never need help with luggage, so it's not like I'd get a chance to anyway).

You don't like delivery people? =( They work hard to get your pizza to your door! I sympathize because my parents use to own a restaurant and my brothers often did delivery work, and you wouldn't believe the amount of people who would tip nothing, or a dollar for the delivery. I find it a bit insulting, but that's just me.
Haha wow, I dunno why but by "delivery-people" I immediately thought of couriers and people who deliver things other than food. Wow. Go me. I totally tip people who deliver food, because basically I'm paying them for my laziness.

To my knowledge, the delivery surcharge does not go to your delivery boy. A small amount may go to his gas stipend.

I tip when I have money to. ;o
One time I went out with some friends and we pooled all the cash we had on us. The waitress was awesome, provided great service, and we had some good conversation with her. When we got the bill it was exactly what we had pooled, so we didn't have enough to tip. :O I felt really bad when we left because she was an awesome waitress (hopefully she overheard us talking about it and understood. >.>)

Are you serious, CaptainWill? I hope you know that they remember your address when they're making your order the next time around. This is often said in articles authored by delivery people.

I work as a waiter at a steakhouse on the weekends and breaks. We get paid $2.83 an hour, as do most other tip-earning workers. If you can't afford to tip 15%+, DON'T GO OUT. Always calculate the tip in your budget prior to dining.

Devlin: I have parties of 20 that I deal with myself, and it is near impossible to provide excellent service with that many people. If the bill is 500$, I expect at least an $80 tip. I'm one of the speedier ones, so I usually get that and more.

He probably gave the "soda" example just so he didn't look like a complete dick to the interviewer. They do worse. Don't be a dick, tip the guy.

Yeah I'm serious. The tipping culture is very different in the UK. When I was a waiter/bartender at a chain pub/restaurant I was paid £5.50 p.h. If that's adjusted for exchange rate it's almost 3x as much as a typical US waiter. 10% is the accepted base rate for restaurant and taxi driver tipping.

In the UK you never ever tip in bars or pubs - an American once tipped me when I was working behind a bar and I really did think 'wtf'. Normally if people leave money on the bar I assume they've forgotten their change; if it's lying there long enough I just put it in the till. It's very common to be offered drinks by patrons though, and it's polite to accept (slightly rude to refuse and very rude to ring more than half a pint for yourself through the till).

I used to tip delivery guys (and still do when I'm in my hometown) but apparently I must have been in a minority because I have yet to see one student tip a delivery person since coming to uni. The first couple of times I ordered food with other people I expected them to contribute money to a tip, and out of embarrassment when they didn't, I went to pick up the order and put the whole tip in myself. After this had happened the second time I stopped tipping.

Sorry for the ignorance, I assumed the tipping culture was the same. I'm just too damn used to all the tips since I've been making them for a good 3 to 4 years working there. If you're making that much, it really isn't as bad as I imagined then.

In Korea, there are no tips. Deliverymen, and waiters are considered easy come and easy go jobs with too many people to fill their place.

That says a lot about Korea right there, besides StarCraft being the first coming of a serious religion over there.

I tip around 30-50% regardless of the service, and I don't know why. I mean, I hate being patronized, being sucked-up to, and fake smiles. I don't even feel good giving them the tip, but I just do it.

I usually tip the pizza delivery guy a couple of bucks, like $7 for a $20 pizza. I just give how much I can offer. For waiters and the like, if they're fun and enjoyable with good service, I'd tip.

ᴄʜᴇᴇsᴇ ɪᴛ!

I remember I went out to eat with a group of friends, and one of them complained the entire time about the service, then left a 30% tip. When I questioned him about it, he said, "I tip well".

My experience with delivery guys is that they are crazy. One guy I knew was always drunk, got pulled over numerous times, and responded to the police officer who pulled him over, "man, I gotta get these pizzas out". They let him go every time. Absolutely ridiculous.

@ Norm. Jesus. I hope this wasn't an expensive meal you tipped 100%.

Naw, it was like $15 for my part of the bill (a friend and I were eating out, so split bill) All together, out bill was ~30, and the guy got a ~24 dollar tip.

Where the hell are you guys getting your pizza? I pay $11-13 for a large with 3 awesome toppings. And it is delicious.

Also, I worked as a pizza delivery guy for about 2 months of my life, and at the specific place I worked, they gave like 1/2 the delivery charge to the delivery person.

I live in LA. Most good pizza places charge at least $18 for a large pizza with 2 toppings.
