Its illegal for all ages in Colorado, and its illegal to even talk on a cell phone while driving until you're 18.
Both talking and texting while driving are illegal in California.
In terms of the general law, I think it's dangerous to do so, but sometimes there are times when it seems sort of needed.. I guess that's what Bluetooth headsets are for.I think if you're under 21 or 18, though, you can't talk on the phone at all.
I texted while driving once (when it was legal), and it scared the shit out of me. Never again.
I find it funny that texting was only made illegal in CA recently, rather than packaging it with the hand-free phone law.
EDIT:
My job required me to do a lot of driving and I got a lot of calls while doing so, so my bluetooth was a godsend. Either way it's all dumb. Having one hand off the wheel doesn't seem like the issue. My lack of concentration when I'm trying to figure something out over the phone is an issue. Way to go, laws!
Devlin hit it right on the dot. Its not the talking part its where your brain is. like your reaction time slows down and things like that when you are talking on the phone... Texting is a bit differnt though.

Texting is an entirely different story than talking on a phone while driving.
It requires interaction, and viewing of the screen, to read a text or to make sure you're sending what you want to send.
I myself have only recently started to drive (Not quite a license yet... Few weeks maybe) but just the thought of texting while trying to drive.... It's impossible.
Nothing scares me more than a teenage taking their phone out of their pocket and staring at it for 10 seconds while moving at 60 miles an hour.

I'm with New-Guy, even though I've had a license for a few years. Even when I drive people around, I have to turn off the radio. I can't concentrate on more than one thing at a time...

Conan O'Brien did a bit about that study on his show also night. It was pretty funny. It seems relevant here.
Limited multitasking, like talking or even texting while driving, is obviously not ridiculous and is possible.
Does it occur to you that some people just react to gore differently and just can't handle it? It's like people who can't go on rollercoaster rides or else they get sick. Though, I am sure that there are others that just determine it inappropriate for everyone even they can stomach it themselves.
What an odd, unnatural reaction. Ah, well. People are odd. I'm guessing something made them that way.

My grandpa knows someone who reads books while driving. Not books on tape, he actually has the book open on the steering wheel.
Also, is it bad that I lold when that girl fell down in the psa?
"Parliamentary inquiry, Mr. Chairman - do we have to call the Gentleman a gentleman if he's not one?"
There was a highly publicised case in the UK of a lorry (semi truck) driver crashing into a family car on the motorway late at night because he was texting. Everyone in the car was killed and the vehicle was destroyed, however the truck was almost undamaged. It's incredibly dangerous to text, though I admit to having sent the occasional two word text or short phone call when stuck in heavy traffic.
I don't have a problem with the radio - I don't have to concentrate on music but I prefer to listen to talk shows and the like when I'm in slow-moving traffic so I can give them more attention.
Also, I can't believe you laughed at the woman falling over in the Canadian PSA, especially considering the outcome. If you want to laugh at that kind of thing, watch an accident claim company advert seeing as they're generally lame: 'I fell over at work and really bruised my knee!'

LOL I lold right there also... I was just too afraid to speak up.

I loled at both videos actually.
Seriously, I find these campaigns totally useless. I don't think anyway is going to drive differently just by trying to make the ads look like an horror film. Instead they should focus in giving driver licenses only to the people that deserves them.
?????

You sound like a youtube comment.

What are they going to do? "Hey that girl doesn't look like she's going to text while driving" "That man doesn't look like he's going to drink and drive"
I refuse to text while driving, I won't pretend to be skilled enough to somehow pay attention to both the road and my screen and I'll only take a call or make one if I'm in a residential area, or somewhere else slow. Sure I can text without looking at the screen but that takes more concentration to do than is worth the pay off of seeing the road.

I don't text, so texting while driving will probably not be a problem.

Actually I just renewed my license a few days ago...and a chick was texting on her cell phone while talking to the DMV lady. I was like hmmm that's a red flag.

If I want to send a text message, I wait until stop lights that I know are going to be longer than a few seconds.
