Saw reports of this a long while ago, and recommended that someone strip off that event handler. Which wasn't done... :\
iirc, it was done at some point ... Then somebody added it back .. Then they were removed again .. and then they were added back. Or something. They were gone at some point(s).

Searching on google for site:staredit.net gets me only v4 results, nothing from the actual current SEN.

Yeah, this has been going on for a while now. I'm wondering what the reason is, it used to be possible to find any thread through Google.

Okay, making a new post to ensure this will be noticed.

The following issues with the messaging system are still prevalent and still causing a lot of problems.

1) If you receive a PM with multiple recipients, using the "Reply to Group" form below it will NOT include the original sender in your PM.

2) If you run out of PM space, there is no indication of this anywhere.

For the first one, the only way to fix it is to include the original sender in the recipients of Reply to Group.

Either that, or just completely remove the "Reply to Group" form since it doesn't work anyways. This would force people to use "Reply to All", which actually does work.

For the second one, I'd suggest using the notification system to notify the person they are out of PM space (also having a notification when there are only 10 or 5 PMs left would probably be beneficial as well).

Does anyone know how difficult it is to fix these?

What is the "Reply to group" feature supposed to do, as opposed to Reply All?

None.

Mar 5 2013, 1:48 am Aristocrat Post #1746

They are supposed to be synonymous. The behavior of replying to everyone except the sender makes zero sense whatsoever.

This.

The "Reply to Group" form should be removed until it's fixed. It makes it incredibly difficult to correspond to more than one person.

The lack of notice when you're low or out of PM space is similarly debilitating, especially when coupled with relatively low limits on PM space.

OVERWATCH STATUS GO

When Devourer added it (at least I think he was the one who added it), I believe we were originally trying to make it do something other than the reply to all feature but I don't remember what exactly (I think we were discussing PM recipient limits at the time). Not including the sender was a bug/accident that was never fixed.

I suggested this a while ago and I'll suggest it again, SEN is using jQuery 1.3.2 which is highly outdated, it should start using 1.9.1 hosted on a CDN(http://ajax.googleapis.com/ajax/libs/jquery/1.9.1/jquery.min.js). I made a jsperf test to show off how much faster using 1.9.1 vs 1.3.2
http://jsperf.com/dh-jquery-1-4-vs-1-6/39

If anything becomes broken after switching over to 1.9.1, try using the jQuery Migrate plugin: http://code.jquery.com/jquery-migrate-1.1.1.min.js
I feel totally ignored

We live in a society.

It seemed simple enough to update so I tried replacing the jquery files with newer ones. Except for jqueryui, I have no idea how that thing works and I don't know Javascript or what packages to use. Anyway, hopefully nothing breaks. :P

Hmm, I wonder what the functionality was supposed to be.

The main problem isn't just that it's broken, but also that it's the default response method; doing Reply to All requires clicking another link, but Reply to Group is staring everyone in the face, so they always use that one (unless they know better and remember :P).

It would be more convenient than Reply to All if it wasn't removing the original sender lol.

Hey Moose, since you're in a coding mood... :teach: Is the code involved with the PM system within your scope of knowledge?

Not sure if SEN became faster by doing that (if it did, I don't notice it at least), but now I have to manually refresh the page every time I go back (e.g. to the forum index). Alternatively I'd have to klick on the forum index link each time. Both is inconvenient for me. Can you change that or revert back to the old jquery?

The code for the PM system is held together by Scotch tape :/

I would be happy to take a look at SEN's code and see if there's anything I can do to improve it. Perhaps I can even start work on yet another SEN v6, but I'd like to keep the current post database so I'd need to at least see the structure of that to begin, and ideally I'd be able to see the original code to base mine off. I'd probably use it as an excuse to learn MVC and build it in a framework, which will be EXTREMELY useful to anyone else who wants to make edits or additions, as MVC frameworks basically make everything modular, so it's easy to bug test and easy to add new pages, and easy to change stuff without breaking everything.

Having said all that my time is limited but everyone is limited in time so I'm willing to do my bit, even though I've generally left SEN.

Wouldn't it be better to just replace SEN's image viewer code with highslide? It's vastly superior to our in-house solution.

Not if the mentioned change already caused other problems. Then it's just easier to go back and be done with it. Especially when there's no perceived advantage.

Mar 11 2013, 12:00 am Azrael Post #1759

I thought it was planned to eventually update the image viewer to something more functional anyways.

I've heard a lot of good things about highslide. The images on their page use it to demonstrate some of the different ways it can enlarge images. The photo of the bird is the most similar to how our current image viewer looks.

It should be possible to work on a quick fix for this.
I'd imagine it would be like:
$("next button").click(function(){
Var currentimage = $("current image").attr("src");
Var next = $("img[src='"+currentimage+']").next("img.bbcode").attr("src");
$("current image").attr("src",next);
});
To explain what the above code does in order:
-check if next button is clicked
-get the url of the current image
-find the url of next image
-change current image's url with next one

Im not on a computer right now so idk specific element names to select
