Hello

Quote
The year is 1899. Wealthy industrialist Oswald Mandus has returned home from a disastrous expedition to Mexico, which has ended in tragedy. Wracked by fever, haunted by dreams of a dark machine, he recovers consciousness in his own bed, with no idea of how much time has passed since his last memory. As he struggles to his feet, somewhere beneath him, an engine splutters, coughs, roars into life...

Although I have played Amnesia -the dark descent- after I have seen Day9 playing it, I still shat my pants now and then.
I probably should not play the new part (releases early 2013), at least not without proper preparations.

Anyone of you ever played the Dark Descent? Who is going to purchase A Machine For Pigs?

OVERWATCH STATUS GO

Dark Descent was awesome, and even though I'm disappointed that the same people aren't making this one, I did love Dear Esther so I'm still definitely looking forward to it.

I played at least parts of the demo of Dark Descent and I rather liked it. For some reason I haven't touched it after I actually bought it, despite having it installed on two different computers for about two years.

Dear Esther was a quite good experience, totally worth the 8 euro I paid back then. The environmental design combined with the narrative technique and the music made it unique.
Well, Frictional Games is still producing the game while the chinese room only developed it, thus I have no fear of the game turning out rather bad. Oh, and I think the woman who composed the music for Dear Esther is also composing it for this game. Good.

Oh and Devlin, if you play it: stream it. :D

Have "fun", bro. You should play it.
(But only at night with headphones while being alone. And turn off the lights.)

Back* from the grave

I plan on playing it, if I ever get a better computer. Played about 3 minutes of DD before I said fuck this 2 FPS bullshit.

Hello

Played it. Very short, differs highly from the original game, gives you a feeling of being Jigsaw.
One of the thing I loved in Amnesia The Dark Descent was the fact that you are somewhat alone (except for agrippa) all the time.

I never beat Dark Descent myself, but me and my friends all had one of us play it after dark and we watched. And after a few sessions of playing from midnight till dawn with all of us watching he did beat it. That was pretty fun. The best part was when he was at the end of a hallway and a brute was coming, so he just ran straight towards it to get past it. xD We were all yelling WHAT THE FUCK ARE YOU DOING!?! RUN AWAY, NOT TOWARDS IT! and he was just, coolly, like "I can't."

I'll totally play this one. :P

It was technically suppose to release Halloween 2012, but they delayed for improvements :hurr:

Played DD and a myriad of custom games. You guys should try Tenebris Lake, i quit a few times cause it was so intense.

Frictional's only producing it? They must be too busy working on Penumbra 4.

Hello

Yeah, the systemrequirements are actually really sick, while the ones for the first Amnesia were rather low.
Both games are using the same engine and the graphics do not seem to have improved (by far) as well.
Makes me wonder. Does the new game have incredibly huge levels to use so much RAM? I don't know.

Those graphics seem quite a bit better to me. ;o Plus I think it is using a newer version of the engine.

Hello

[[ Post may include spoilers]]

Well. The level design of this game often is just great. Beautiful, though this has already be the case in Amnesia #1.
The sound effects are most of the times excellent (though the (seldomly played) music is not as good the ones used in the dark descent (different artist)).

However, the gameplay is actually pretty horrible to be honest.

There no longer is a sanity-system which the first game heavily dependent on (in my eyes).

Enemies are even stupider. Dark Descent often managed to just show them, let them walk and make them disappear. Sounds bad, but has a good effect.
Now, Amnesia #2. Well. In fact, it feels like playing one of those "Bound" Maps from Starcraft I: timing is everything. Seriously, the enemies just patrol. You see them all of the time.
This takes so much of the atmosphere away. I liked the game like really a lot until I have been to the church. After that, I already knew how the enemies are working in this game.
Pretty fast, meeting enemies became annoying and nothing building up tension and whatnot.

I continued the game just to see the level design and I was not disappointed by that.

However, I sadly can not recommend this game if you have played Amnesia #1. You would expect something else.
