So here's the deal. I'm creating a map using SCM Draft 2 and saving it too my BW folder, I've also tried saving it to the Downloaded folder from B.Net. When I try to find the map in game it's not there. When I'm editing the map it's there in the folder. I've contacted B.Net support but they haven't given me a solution. So maybe ya'll can help. Troubleshoot or something. It would be much appreciated.

P.s not sure if this was the right section of the forum, forgive me if it's not.

That's pretty weird. What is the exact file pathway? Like C:\Program Files\StarCraft\Maps\MyMap.scx ?

Edit: Also: you have to put them under "Maps" or any subsequent folder within "Maps". You cannot just put them under "Starcraft"

It's "Starcraft\Maps\Broodwar\Mymap.scx" yeah.

I tried a test map on the default map editor for SC. It shows up on battle.net. tech support said i might need a patch to make my .scx files compatible with bnet? Not sure what to do there.

Are you signing on Battle.net on StarCraft, and not StarCraft: Broodwar? You need to sign on to the expansion to see .scx files.

When clicking Multiplayer (or hitting the hotkey m) at the first screen, if you hit "enter" it signs you on the original. You have to click the expansion or use the hotkey "e."

If I'm wrong, then could you tell me if you can see other maps? Can you see all of them, or only .scm extensions?

If you have to many maps in one folder, you may not see the ones starting with later letters like x y z.

But I've the impression that that's not happening in your case...

TheHoss - you're using Vista or Windows 7, right?

They have special protection on all files in the Program Files directory. The way this works is that old programs like Starcraft that aren't Vista-aware will see the Program Files directory and think they are writing to it, but actually Vista/W7 has re-directed them to a shadow copy. So SCMdraft may be operating on the real Program Files, but SC is accessing the shadow copy (stored elsewhere) and so doesn't see your map. Or vice-versa: SCMdraft is seeing the shadow copy, and SC is using the real one.

My suggestion is to install Starcraft somewhere other than the Program Files directory in Vista/W7, because there is no way to disable this protection feature, even for individual directories. This is the #1 reason not to "upgrade" to W7. I hate giving up control over my computer and "let Bill Gates handle it". I know what I'm doing damnit, I don't need my OS overriding my judgment. This really has to be optional.

Well, looks like that's the problem. Went to my program files and clicked compatibility files, there it is. SO there's no other way to access the map on bnet because of Vista? That's really quite retarded.

If you run SC in admin mode you might get access to the files.

I had the opposite sort of problem with SC on W7 - SCMdraft and SC could both see the file, but I couldn't easily see the file myself when I went into program files, I'd have to click compatibility mode. Other programs like TinyMap etc couldn't see it.

Then my SC started to screw up where after 3-4 times of playing it, b.net would refuse my connection because it couldn't determine my version. Uninstalling and reinstalling would make it work for another 2-3 times, then it would mess up again. Installing it into C:\Games\Starcraft solved all the problems.

I have so many maps in my download folder that it only goes to the "B"s on normal games.
