Starforge used to be my hardcore string editor and now that starforge is uninstallable on my windows glass comp i cant use SCMDRAFT because the friggin thing gives me string editor bug which just shuts down the program... the BS "something wrong has happened" *close*.

anyone know or have of an available STRING EDITOR. Besides Starforge or SCM Draft. Something that will let me edit the text strings on my map. Thanks.

PS: Starforge users or knowers, u should know starforge has the most fastest and esiest ways to edit strings. with just one click rather in scm draft u gotta find ur string u must edit in the mix up, and in SF u can just categorize the strings.

Well anyways i hope anyone can help me outz here.

👻 👾 👽 💪

You can extract the STR section with a hexeditor or section extractor, make sure that it doesn't have the "STR " and 4 byte lengths and then open it in tblpad.

PROEdit has a string editor. You could try to use it...

Do you know why Starforge doesn't work on your computer anymore? We could try working out those problems.

Well, Hem, After reformatting my comp and installing my new OS, windows XP basically, i downloaded my starcraft version off the blizzard store for free cuz of my cd keys. installed wit no issues, i installed the visual basic runtime files and the common controls required for Starforge to run. after starforge successfully installs, i try to ru it and it boots up, but as it boots up it gives me a error, cannot find stardat.mpg and it promts me to to find it my self in the starcraft directory, it says its successful and to restart starforge, after restarting it gives me the same error tha it cannot find the stardat.mpq. Yes, its intalled in the starcraft directory. :-(

EDIT: I found the latest version of OSMAP and it has an excellent string editor, but i would still like help on installing Starforge. Thanks.

Several people have had this problem when using the version of SC off the blizzard website. You can work around this problem if you can get access to the original .mpq files (open install.exe off each CD with winmpq), drop them in a directory somewhere, and point SF to look there.

Another possibility which I haven't tried is (using winmpq) to create empty stardat.mpq, broodat.mpq, and patch_rt.mpq archives in a folder, then copy everything (well, you don't need everything) from your existing archives into those. Then tell SF to look in that folder.

Then try the second method - create new ones and copy the data between them with winmpq.
