Starting last night, I've had problems with my computer spontaneously crashing while playing Starcraft online. I get a blue screen and my computer restarts itself.
At first I thought that it was some hack a guy had (the first time it happened, I was on the verge of winning a game), but just a few minutes ago it happened again with seemingly no cause.
Does anyone know what is causing this, and how I can prevent it?

Given that bluescreens can happen for a huge variety of different reasons, most of them specific to your computer due to either hardware faults or weird software configurations, there's little likelihood anyone is going to be able to help you.
However some more information would help: does it always crash in the same place, or after the same amount of time? Or is it completely random?

It appears to be completely random. The first time, I was right at the end of a game, and the second time, the crash occurred within the first several minutes. It was also in two different maps, one of which I had owned and played for... a long time.
I don't think it has to do with my hardware. I've been using the same laptop for nearly three years now, and the problems only started yesterday.

I'm not a computer expert... But I can tell you a computer being old doesn't mean it's less likely to break suddenly.

Download a CPU temperature monitor and see what kind of temperature you're running at when you restart after getting a blue screen. Unlikely though. More likely is that your RAM is corrupt; run memcheck and see if you have any corrupt sectors.
And make sure you're not running any hacks, there's an antihack which crashes SC although I don't think it gives a BSoD.

Did you install any updates to your OS/firmware around the time this started happening?
You could also try reinstalling SC to see if that fixes the issue.
If you start getting crashes outside SC, or in other games/CPU intensive tasks, it would indicate some broader HW or SW problem.

I don't think I made any changes to my OS, and so far I've only gotten crashes during SC. And I'm not running any hacks.

Right-click on My Computer and choose "Properties." That should tell you things such as your OS, processor and RAM.
Right-click on your desktop and choose to change your screen resolution. On that screen, click on advanced settings. The pop-up should tell you your graphics card information on the Adapter tab (assuming you're using Windows 7). If you have another Windows OS, the information should be floating around this area as well.
OPTION 2: DEVICE MANAGERRight-click on My Computer and choose "Manage." That will open up Device Manager.
You can click on various hardware groups such as "Display Adapters" (for your graphics card information) and "Processors" (for your processor information).
There's also a free program called
System Spec that is supposed to gather your specs for you, if you want to try that.

Is this a problem exlusive to Starcraft? Does it make a difference if you're playing online? Does it happen when Starcraft is idle or minimized?
Check the temperatures with
HWMonitor (doesn't need to be installed).
Check your RAM with
Windows Memory Diagnostic (creates boot disc).
