)...The distorted guitar at 2:44 felt very out of place since it started on an offbeat or there was a time signature or something, but it's their song they can put any feel they want.
It's pretty good for pop.

Vicarious is my favourite song by them. And Schism just because they (Maynard) did the artistic/animation/concepts for all their own videos. Interesting factoid: their 1996 album Ænima was dedicated and inspired by Bill Hicks, who considered himself and the band to be going in the same direction - with the album being released 2 years after Hicks death, the track Eulogy is a cynical funeral speech about Bill Hicks and the tragedy of his death.

Personally I like 10,000 days the most by tool. Progressive rock is probably my most favorite style of music right now, and Tool did it so masterfully.
