I can't play power chords.
I don't know why, I just can't mute the strings I'm not playing. Maybe it's harder on acoustic, or something, but it always sounds wrong. I can play a Bm double flat 5th in 7th position (77129xx), but not a B5 (xxxx02). It's kinda sad.
Did you consider, maybe, not playing the strings that have xs?

How can you not play power chords? It's the easiest thing besides just putting your hand around a guitar neck.

Plus, power chords emulate the sound of all the major chords, G, C, D, E, A, F. Of course, open chords have a lot of manipulation to them, for example I can make a D chord sound like a country lick when a D-power chord is simply some rock and roll beef.

yeah power chords are just root, 5th and 8ve, so its extremely basic, and it follows the pentatonic box shape on the guitar and i definatly dont think they require any musical taste or any sort of "genius" to play a combonation of them.
and syphon, its sad that you cant mute those notes or just not play them, i dont understnad how you could have trouble with that.

Must be your finger positioning. Have you had a teacher? Sometimes even though it sounds good your technique can be off. I always check in with my old guitar teacher before moving on to something else. Years of practice without proper technique means more practice to get even better.
