Hello,
I have a huge collection of old UMS maps, but unfortunately after the introduction of the latest patches (1.15 and 1.16, perhaps even earlier ones) a lot of them tend not to work.
There seem to be at least 2 bugs:
-players cant join
-players can join, but cannot download the map

Im not completely sure what causes those bugs. Due to trail and error I figured out that color codes in map name and description sometimes make it impossible to join the game. When the characters are removed the maps seem to start working again.

Unfortunately, I have no idea how to repair some other maps. Removing the colour codes from the map names does not help. Either the players cannot join, nor they do not download the map. Do you have any ideas what to do?
In addition I can unprotect most of the older maps, unfortunately the strings often get fucked this way (I use os unprotector) - is there some new tool.

btw. I repaired Worms 1.83 this way, thus "creating" version 1.84
it can be found here:
http://www.yousendit.com/download/TTZuUWVxU1BnYVBIRGc9PQ
I contacted the author and he did not have the original, thus I had to recreate a lot of the strings

Anyway, do you know how to repair other maps? What can cause them not to work?

Hello

Players can't join? -> make sure that Ports are open [port 6112]
Is there a symbol like "+" in the map-name/title? if yes; remove that symbol. It stucks the DL.
and anyway... reasons for old map can be that for exampl stacked names doesn't work in maptitle anylonger (or force-color)
it was fixed by a patch. Remove them to play it again.

Please report errors in the Staredit.Network forum.

We can't explain the universe, just describe it; and we don't know whether our theories are true, we just know they're not wrong. >Harald Lesch

It's most probably because colored and/or stacked force titles.

thanks, I have removed all the colours from both the forces and map description, but didnt know that the "&" signs are not allowed too. The newer the patches the worse.. I wish it was possible to stack again

You can still stack text and unit names, but sadly no forces or map names.

I do stuff and thingies... Try widening and reducing the number of small nooks and crannies to correct the problem.

AfaIk, that things are just ignored in the multiplayer lobby. Only the filename and map title will prevent people from joining.

The file name shouldn't cause a problem, if you can create it the filename isn't a problem, it's the map title that causes most of the unjoinable problems.

It was the filename. Apparently the "&" sign was causing the problem (it didnt in the previous patches).
I've deleted the color codes from the map description and forces before posting here. Hopefully no other things cause such problems.

An artist's depiction of an Extended Unit Death

If you want to fix map names but the map is protected, you could unprotect the map, fix the description, and optionally reprotect the map, but I would recommend using Angelfarto's SCMU program instead. It allows you to edit the map name without actually unprotecting the map.

I just added this because you said you have "a huge collection" of old maps.

Oh_Man -- because it adds anotherr level of player decision-making where u dont wanna walk too far away from the medic or u lose healing value

Oh_Man -- initially I thought it was weird why is he still using the basic pre-EUD medic healing system, but it's actually genius

Vrael shouted: I almost had a heart attack just thinking about calculating all the offsets it would take to do that kind of stuff
With the modern EUD editors, I don't think they're calculating nearly as many offsets as you might imagine. Still some fancy ass work that I'm sure took a ton of effort

Oh_Man -- definitely EUD
