This is not the actual AVATAR Mafia. This is a topic debating how the upcoming AVATAR mafia (that I am going to host) is going to work.

Attention one and all. I am going to host a Mafia game based on the recent movie AVATAR. I have given much thought to how it might work, and still be fun, and here are a few ideas I came up with.

*Note* Some plot spoilers below, I have also altered the story of the movie to suit a mafia-playable game.

Version One:

** The Basics ** The RDA (Humans) are the "townspeople" and those in the AVATAR program are the "mafia". The RDA are trying to find and kill the Na'vi loving humans in the AVATAR program, so they can launch their attack on the Hometree and harvest all the unobtainium. The Avatars have seen the error of their ways and are trying to stop the RDA.

The actual Na'vi will take no part in this version, because in order to keep as true as possible to the movie, the Na'vi and the Avatars would be aligned against the RDA and it would just result in a whole unbalanced overly complicated mess of things. If you have a better idea of how this version would work, please post it below.


Version Two:

** The Story ** There are three, count them, THREE factions, the RDA, the Avatars, and the Na'vi. This would be called a Double Mafia.

How would this work, you might ask? Let me explain.

The RDA have come to Pandora to extract large amounts of unobtainium, which is an extremely valuable ore. However, the native species, the Na'vi, don't like the fact that not only did strange beings come out of the sky and started to tear up the jungle, the humans are also killing innocent creatures to get their ore.

In order to prevent what they think is an unnecessary all-out war, the RDA scientists have come up with an idea to "infiltrate", sabotage, and cause enough unrest between the Na'vi people so they would kill each other. This was the AVATAR program. Little did they know that the Na'vi are not mindless animals, but actually an intelligent species which are in their tribal stage of civilization.

The RDA leader on Earth personally selected humans from the colony to take part in the AVATAR program. (Those humans are randomly selected after sign ups are closed.) The Avatars themselves are not Humans, nor Na'vi, but genetically altered Na'vi grown with human DNA taken from those previously selected humans. There is one Avatar for each selected human. (For the sake of not confusing you, I am going to refer to the selected humans as Controllers.) The controllers would lie in a "Link Bed" that would, very basically, put the controllers to sleep and they would wake up as their Avatar.

For a few weeks, the Avatars were doing their job, and doing it well. They were infiltrating the Na'vi tribes and slowly but steadily becoming "one of them." But suspicions arose... a camera on an RDA bulldozer showed footage of one of the Avatars was trying to stop the bulldozer from tearing down the jungle. Only one security officer from the RDA saw it, and his attempts to alert higher officers failed, instead rumors began that the Avatars were not truly loyal to the human race.

Things were not going well on the Na'vi side of the story either. The Na'vi did notice that a couple Avatars were not really Na'vi, and they began to keep an eye on them. They had no idea of the exact number of Avatars. However, after the princess of the Na'vi tribe was found mating with one of the Avatars, and not with her intended husband, the Na'vi started to hunt the Avatars down. The Avatar that mated with her did flee from the tribe, but was killed during his escape. His controller body died from the shock. The Na'vi, knowing that there was at least one more Avatar among them, grew suspicious of each other.

The controllers were growing nervous, the RDA thought that they were against them, and in that they were right. But the RDA were wrong in the fact that they thought the Avatars sided with the Na'vi.

End of Story. Wow that was long...

So, the RDA want to kill the Na'vi, because they are in the way of their mining operations, and the Avatars, because they believe they are sided with the Na'vi against them.

The Avatars want to destroy the RDA, because they discovered the beauty of the world Pandora and they don't want the RDA to hurt it anymore. They also want to kill the Na'vi basically for revenge for something they don't know about. (Nobody knows that one of their own had mated with the Na'vi princess, much less who it was.)

And lastly, the Na'vi wanted the Avatars dead because their princess is no longer a virgin, and they want the RDA wiped off of the face of Pandora for destroying some of the planet's wildlife just to get some rocks.


\/ OK, Assuming that idea two is picked, here is how I plan for the mafia to work. \/


** How it works ** The Avatars are basically the mafia, with the RDA and the Na'vi being two opposing groups of Townspeople.

During Day 1, each faction will vote amongst themselves who to elect as a leader, who then will get one/two bodyguards randomly assigned afterwords. The leaders CANNOT die via being hunted unless their bodyguard is dead. The names of each are the General (RDA), Jake Sully (Avatars), and the Chieftain (Na'vi). If there is an instance of a tie, the player voted for FIRST gets to be leader. (Special thanks to Voyager for inspiring me to implement the Mayor-type system.)

** Lynching/Hunting ** -Every 2nd DAY (starting with Day 2), the RDA will vote to lynch one of their own members in an attempt to kill the controllers. (Avatars)

-Every 2nd DAY (starting with Day 3), the RDA will go hunt down a Na'vi and kill him/her. (They will vote who to hunt down the same way they would for a lynch, EXCEPT that the votes are sent to me via PM. The reason why is explained in the character roles below.)

-Every 2nd NIGHT (Starting with Night 1), the Na'vi will go hunt down a member of the RDA and kill him/her. (They will vote who to hunt down the same way they would for a lynch, EXCEPT that the votes are sent to me via PM. The reason why is explained in the character roles below.)

-Every 2nd NIGHT (Starting with Night 2), the Na'vi will vote to sacrifice (Lynch) one of their own members in an attempt to kill the hated Avatars.

** Roles/Abilities **
-RDA-

General: He is the leader of the RDA, so obviously he needs protection. He cannot die by being hunted unless his bodyguard(s) are dead. He is not, however, immune to lynching. The General's lynch votes count as two, him being a persuasive man, and he may pardon an RDA member twice from being lynched. If the General dies via being hunted, the RDA mourn for him during the next day and they do not do any lynching/hunting on that same day.

Doctor: Ah yes, the Doctor. Same rules as the other mafias, he may protect one person other than himself from harm during a Na'vi hunting night.

Soldier: If you do not get selected for any special roles, you are a Soldier. If you are a controller (Avatar), you "appear" to be a Soldier. The Soldier can choose to use one of two special abilities. He can either A - use "Awareness" during a Na'vi night hunt once, which gives him a 50% chance of surviving if he is targeted during that hunt. Or he can B - use "Preparation" during a Na'vi night hunt once, which gives him a 8% chance of not only surviving, but also killing an attacking Na'vi. (If this does happen, only a Na'vi that voted to attack him will be killed.)

Bodyguard: Role is obvious, unless the Bodyguard is dead, the General CANNOT die via being hunted. The Bodyguard is randomly selected from ANY member of the RDA after the General has been selected. The General knows who his Bodyguard(s) are.

Spy: He has the ability to watch one member of his own faction, following them everywhere, thus discovering their true intentions. (He can find out whether a person is a controller (Avatar) or a regular RDA member.) This ability can be used only once every day, starting with Day Two. Only the Spy will know the identity of the player.

Any other ideas for RDA roles are appreciated.

-Avatars-

*Note* Avatars can be either RDA or Na'vi. They cannot be both, otherwise they would show up on both factions, thus defeating the purpose of the game. After the RDA and Na'vi are selected, a few players from both factions will be randomly selected to be Avatars. They will be aware of the identities of each other.

Jake Sully: Even though it's illogical to elect someone to be a person, just... bear with me. Whoever gets the most votes for leader is Jake Sully. Jake Sully has the ability to prevent one of the Avatars from dieing. (This can be used once every two days, and once every two nights, and it will be disguised as a Doctor save or Leader pardon.) He also has one Bodyguard. (Randomly selected)

Bodyguard: Same rules apply as the other Bodyguard for the other factions, except this one guards Jake Sully, and all of the Avatars know who the Bodyguard is.

Hunter: This is the default class for an Avatar if you are not Jake Sully. The Hunter can kill one member of either the RDA or the Na'vi once every two days AND nights. (The hunter PMs me with his target.)

-Na'vi-

Chieftain: The Chieftain has the same abilities as the General, except they apply for the Na'vi.

Bodyguard: Same rules as the General's Bodyguard, except this one guards the Chieftain.

Herbalist: The Herbalist is the Na'vi equivalent of an RDA Doctor, so the same rules, except they apply for the Na'vi.

Warrior: If you do not get selected for any special roles, you are a Warrior. If you are an Avatar, you "appear" to be a Warrior. The Warrior can choose to use one of two special abilities. He can either A - use "Awareness" during an RDA day hunt once, which gives him a 50% chance of surviving if he is targeted during that hunt. Or he can B - use "Preparation" during an RDA day hunt once, which gives him a 8% chance of not only surviving, but also killing an attacking RDA member (If this does happen, only an RDA member that voted to attack him will be killed.)

FINALLY!!! I'm finished... This took me 4 hours to write...

So, what do you guys think of this? Will it work? Could a 3-way Mafia possibly function? Would it be awesome to try it? Do you have any questions?
