Aesthetics [ 30/30 ]
- Simple, but effective terrain.
- Includes appropriate sfx.
- Includes voice acting.
- Text info presented well.
- Animated briefing.
- Chel's portrait changed.
- Same unit sprite used when wielding portal gun (infested kerrigan).
- Portals and other special effects extremely well done.
Design [ 20/20 ]
While the game's content was copied, its implementation into SC was not. There are several design choices that went into creating Portal in such a limited and two dimensional environment.
The choice between isometric and tiled terrain may have been crucial. While debatably possible to include all of the functional elements within an isometric setting, it may eventually prove to be too unweildly and challenging as level complexity increases. For this reason I believe a tiled approach is best.
Function [ 29/30 ]
Systems all perform exactly as they should and exactly as intended. A point was deducted because I felt taking the companion cube through a portal with Chel did not behave as expected and created mild frustration. I recommend that when traveling through a portal, any cube Chel may be carrying always travels with her.
Theme [ 5/5 ]
It's difficult to get more theme-centric than an SC port of Portal.
Professionalism [10/15]
I am forced to argue that the map is not yet complete. The map's size indicates there was more planned, but due to one week constraints, could not be finished. It has an appropriate beginning and end. I got the impression that the map attempts to define itself as a demo, leaving the player wanting more.
Four points were deducted because the game lacked the rest of the test chambers. The game was well-formed, but not a complete port.
Minor Bugs (1)
When portals are stacked on top of each other, an aesthetic glitch occurs where a special effect is displaced improperly.

Dropped ]
Theme [ 0/5 ]
While I have little doubt that the map was made during the contest, it did not adhere to the theme. Pursuant to the rules, it has been dropped from the contest. It is important to follow the theme. Not only does it provide an effective deterrent from maps made previous to the contest's start, but also gives a judge a frame of reference with which to evaluate a map.
