Video/Graphics cards and CrossfireX

Hey peeps, I was just looking for a new graphics card under $150 after being frustrated with how poor my default (came with computer) graphics card is (even on lowest settings can't run skyrim without choppy framerate, runs most games on lowest-moderate settings). I went searching on newegg and tried to stay away from the overly cheap ones (below $100) since I think a simple +$30 more could easily come with a much better powered graphics card. I was wondering whether the ones I picked up were good for the price or if I could find much better ones elsewhere:

http://www.newegg.com/Product/Product.aspx?Item=N82E16814102993 SAPPHIRE Vapor-X 100358VXL Radeon HD 7770 GHz Edition 1GB

Also I'd like to point out both have crossfireX support (which all other cheaper ones seemed to lack) and I'm wondering if it's any good because all I know is that it's some sort of updater? Feel free to mention whether or not they're crap or if I could find a better card under $150.

I have a Dell XPS something.
CPU: Core i5-2310 2.9GHz
6 GB of Ram
and a really crappy graphics card that needs replacing :)

*also I know I've listed AMD's but Nvidias are cool too

Still Napping

They're identical, except the Sapphire one has better cooling. I'm running a 6870 that handles skyrim quite well. I don't know if I'd recommend anything below that level of power.

Are you referring to this one?

There's one more 6870 that's not out of stock but $40 more ( http://www.newegg.com/Product/Product.aspx?Item=N82E16814150561 )

Im not on a Desktop so searching for deals or comparing prices is difficult for me.

I wouldn't recommend anything under 2GB RAM if you want something future proof. Your I5 will probably be still good for quite some time, so looking into the future now will pay off later.
My 6870 is good for most games, okay for some. But in some games I can't even set max settings due to only 1GB RAM. So I agree get at least a 6870 and (if you can find one with 2GB).

You could also get a 6950 and try to unlock it to a 6870.

Here's a list where you can compare performance between models and brands. Helps immensely to find the best bang for the buck.

Crossfire and SLI are interfaces that allow multiple graphics cards to be linked together but unless you're aiming for the very best gaming performance it's better to get a higher tier single card. Not to mention many computers don't have multiple graphics ports (PCIe x16)

The GTX 650 competes with the 7770 (I think) if you want to go with nVidia.

Thanks guys for the helpful websites and comments! It really helped out going to the websites and knowing what the specs are and the important specs to see how powerful it is (graphics memory, graphics interface, core clock). Before this I didn't even know the difference between a video and graphics card... they're the same! (yeah I know...)

I think I've settled on this one:
http://www.newegg.com/Product/Product.aspx?Item=N82E16814202020

The only underside is that it has 1GB video memory and a more or less average 900MHz. It's however a newer model than the 7770 version I was looking at and the graphics interface is 256 bits instead of 128 like the 7770.

Also hopefully no one is vehement about this but I've been looking forward to the new DMC5 and the graphics card I've picked scores a perfect 10... which is much better than my current graphics card that scores a 4. Not sure how reliable the site is but I think this new graphics card will be pretty sweet.

Once again thx guys very sweet and helpful

Having 256 Bits bus bandwidth is pretty important, but core clocks can easily get overclocked (as easy as moving a slider) when you know it has some headroom because there exist higher clocked models of the same gpu. It's a question of loudness and cooling then.

Oh_Man -- initially I thought it was weird why is he still using the basic pre-EUD medic healing system, but it's actually genius

Vrael shouted: I almost had a heart attack just thinking about calculating all the offsets it would take to do that kind of stuff
With the modern EUD editors, I don't think they're calculating nearly as many offsets as you might imagine. Still some fancy ass work that I'm sure took a ton of effort

Oh_Man -- definitely EUD
