Mine isn't. I was planning on cleaning it because I need to set up a mount, then taking a picture when I'm done.

I tried to get it so the window wasn't so over-exposed, but couldn't get the light levels to work. So ended up just taking a photo of the view from the window itself.

I made the origami balls on the top of the walls. The 'Suessian vases' are pottery which I bought from an art gallery in a town 2 1/2 hours drive away. I had the good sense to blu-tack them very securely onto the walls, so when we had the big earthquakes they weren't damaged at all - the origami all fell down and needed some re-assembly though. The photos on the walls are from the annual calendar that my aunt makes, she's an amateur photographer and has won several awards in NZ for her work.

You have a nice office space. Though I think the vases are a bit of overkill. :P

But still cubicles. Why, I wonder, just why?

I would prefer my own cubicle, honestly. It would help me concentrate and muffle out some of the noises that bother me at work. I think it's a matter of preference.

Besides, he has a whole back wall open to the flow of traffic.

👻 👾 👽 💪

Cubicles are fine. I always sit in ones that face a window (my job has too many people to have set individual cubicles), and where my work is there is lots of empty fields and trees (and even wildlife) so I just stare outside most of the day.

I don't actually. The doorway shown is the only access to my cube. I didn't take a photo of the wall opposite my desk because it's just a white wall...

I've effectively got a corner office.

We have a semi open-plan office layout. Some open plan offices don't have any walls / partitions at all, just a big sea of desks. We've got scrum areas that are like that, but partitioned from each other. My team's area is actually the most partitioned of any of them - but me and my team prefer that.

The offices are along the outside walls of each floor, but we don't have enough office space for each SW team leader to have their own office. Also since we're leaders of the scrum teams and also work on the actual projects, it makes sense for us to in the cube area anyway. If we need to have private discussions with anyone, we use a meeting room or occasionally a vacant office.

Apparently. Cubicles make me feel like a mindless drone worker where the bosses are "no socializing, just work, or you're fired!".
I prefer the "sea of desks" we have. It just makes the day more dynamic when you get to talk to others or enjoy their antics once in a while. Plus that way you're always informed what's going on with the others. Helps to optimize quality when you can quickly answer or route the problem to the most appropriate colleague. I also have no trouble shutting out the general talking / noise background when I need to concentrate on something.

tl;dr it improves happiness and a happy worker is a good worker and helps communication inside the team.

The only separation we have is between teams. Like Client, Server and Hotline, etc.
When we need separation from day-to-day business we can book conference rooms.

We have a sea of desks too. I might sneakily take a picture of them when people have gone home and I'm still working.

Open plan has its ups and downs. We're very much about discussing/sharing knowledge at where I work so a cubicle situation would go against that. On the other hand it would be nice to be free of distractions sometimes so you can get a solid amount of work done. I've become the go-to guy for a few specialist areas so I'm interrupted more than most and, being friendly I don't usually send people away.

End result is I don't get as much work done as I'd like.

Haha yeah, tell me about it. But cubicles wouldn't stop that. The most we can do about it is to redirect the phone to the hotline, so at least the colleagues have to walk to us, which they don't do as readily and of course the clients are shut out. Together this helps quite a lot.
