I should post a 4K picture of my desk just to spite you. :P

You spend a 4 figure amount of money on a rig, but then don't have enough money to properly attach a monitor? You can't seriously argue that? \:lol\:
Just because you spend a four figure amount doesn't mean you should piss away money on cables you don't need. The logic doesn't follow there. I try to spend the minimum I can to get what I want.

Quote
Work of art? Okay. That's why I suggested to put a picture of it there. That way you wouldn't limit the usability unnecessarily.
Dumb.

Quote
Also, regarding esthetics, you could use the space to arrange your action figures in a way that does not make them look completely out of place.
Please feel free to show me your own action figure collection and what proper action figure placement is, because I have no idea. Every figurine I own I own because it came with a Collectors Edition, and I just put them wherever.

If there's really no better place for your drawers than at your desk, you could swap the drawers and the PC to increase accessibility of both.
My desk drawers are part of my desk. I can't remove them.

Quote
At the very least you could swap monitor and the PC so the USB ports and DVD are at least not facing away from you. It's like you actively tried to set up the most impractical configuration imaginable.
When I sit down the USB ports are directly to my right, easily accessible. There are also two ports on the top of the case, which I can, you know, stand up to reach. I'm not glued to my chair.

I'm fine with the placement of my PC on the desk, and can see no good reason to put it on the carpet. You have taken issue with my arrangement, clearly, but that's your problem, not mine.

Yeah my workplace desk also looks more organized than my home desk. Also wut, you have the same telephone as me! Though I'm not forced to stare at a grey wall :(

Oh no, I was just arguing for the heck of it. It's my opinion, yes, but not a problem. And I have zero problem with you having differing opinions. I just like to argue, you know.

Yeah but then it's still an invalid argument. You didn't place it there because you had no other cable, but because you like it there.

Not as dumb as inconveniencing yourself.

I have none. But they'd probably look good if they had some space of their own instead of being crammed in front of other shit that is supposed to look good and thus be forced to reside at the edge of the table. A dedicated shelf would be nice.

This is unfortunate. What about next to table?

The back ports, yes. Where all the other cables are in the way. That's good marketing right there: Do not call it an inconvenience, call it a chance to get some exercise!

Feel free. I've made my case. :)

My desk at home is a storage space for all the mail I really should be at least opening (bill payment confirmations, mostly). And there's an unplugged monitor on it, so it's got that going for it.

I've got a laptop and it can play any game I'm currently interested in, plus isn't in a room that's about 10 degrees less than the rest of the house...I would play on my desktop, but as of late I'm never home on weekends (at the girlfriend's) and during the work week I'd rather just chill on the couch with my laptop out. 11 hour days, for three days in a row, then one 7-hour day...combined with less than 4 hours of sleep means my motivation is lacking.

Edit: to be fair, I'm rarely at my desk for extended periods of time. To the right (not pictured) is the lab I'm in for ~60% of my work week, including lunch and time spent processing data. Speaking of data, there are usually pretty colors (from things such as height maps) that make it somewhat more bearable.

My guess is because it's not a home desk, like everyone else's in this thread. That or the mild nerdiness about it.

Working in a lab is probably fun, but why would you want to have cubicle walls, or even cubicles at all?
It makes every workplace immediately seem boring and depressing. I gotta get you photos of my workplace, so you scrubs see how it should be done. :bleh:

:/ even if I wanted to I couldn't take a picture of my office. I'd probably lose my job.

They may or may not know I took a photo of my desk. Turned wifi off, and 99% of the employees were gone since it was about 7:00pm. We are allowed to work very flexible hours, essentially whenever the building has power and we can get in. I then posted the picture from my house.

Now for my desk:

We have audit teams basically 24/7. Not even worth it :P

Either way though I'm not even at my set desk because I'm still in training. So it would be weird.

I too had to sign an NDA about no picture taking. Good thing I just work from home unless my presence is needed at the datacenter.

Ah right. In Germany we eat those with plum puree in it, sprinkled with poppy-seeds, doused with vanilla sauce. Tasty af dessert!
