REPORT THIS!
I got this message while working on a map in SCMDraft 2. I'm a little concerned, it's talking about .\windows and I'm afraid something in my system files may have become corrupted? Or is this just a problem with the map? Let me know please, and is there any way to fix this?
None.
1. Did SCM Draft crash?
2. What did you do right before it happened? If you were just closing Trigedit, chances are it's not a problem, close SCM Draft and reopen it and the error will stop.
None.
I was working on my map and placed about 3 locations rather fast. It popped up the message "Something bad happened" and I went to "File -> Save" and made an extra back-up while SCM Draft was still open just to make sure, and as soon as I clicked okay to the message, it closed. Now both versions are give me that message everytime I add a location.
Anyways I managed to do something and saved it as a different file name a few time and finally it's not saying corruption when I add a new location. I'm just afraid that it still really is corrupted and somewhere down the line I will place a location and it will give me that message again and I'll be screwed. Right now I have a back-up from a few days ago that I know is corruption free. I just want to make sure my current version is truly corruption-free... is there any program that can check a .scx file for string corruption?
None.
Pretty much the only way to check for string corruption is to review them yourself and make sure that they are what they should be.

What exactly would be bad about having corrupt strings? I was under the impression I wouldn't be able to add anymore locations or anything, but those seem to be working now. Would it be okay if there really was a corrupt string in there somewhere or would it come back to haunt me later during the map production?
None.
Well, unless the pointer table is somehow really messed up, it would just mean that strings overlap, are missing, or truncated. I don't know why or how SCMDraft corrupts strings...

Okay so do you think SCM Draft didn't really corrupt the string or are you just saying you don't know much about SCM Draft corrupting strings? I just saw on the front page (of this site) a new SCM Draft out and it says something about fixing a message of corrupted strings that weren't really corrupted. Do you think this is possibly what my problem was?
PS: Thanks a lot everyone for your help!

Well I say download the new version and test for yourself. Its a good idea to update anyways.
About the windows error you do not need to worry. Windows is called windows, because program running in its environment are made of so called windows. (Yeah i know how this sounds, but that's how it is
)
This error was merely pointing to the Map Settings window of ScmDraft. It has nothing to do with your Operating System.
In general when such an error happens try closing ScmDraft and reopening the map. If the error still exists then go back to an older version of the map (using ScmDraft's backup database) just to be on the safe side. ScmDraft backups automatically very often, so you probably won't have lost more than a few minutes.
Where can you access said backups? I wish I had known about this before...

Thanks for this... my main concern was that my computer may have gotten messed up somehow. Now that that's cleared up I can just worry about the map.
Unfortunately, SCM Draft saves all back-up copies to a single file, and if one of those back-ups got corrupted somehow, the entire file, and thus all back-ups, may be lost. I learned this the hard way a few months back when I lost a map I had been working for hours a day without bothering to keep any back-ups myself. I saved the file and something went wrong and the file became corrupted and now is unopenable. SCM Draft crashes when I try to open the back-up database of that file
Anyways that's another story, I must have really bad luck with SCM Draft or maybe I'm just doing something wrong... I guess the moral of the story is SCM Draft back-ups are very useful, but it's also better to make sure you keep your own back-ups of maps handy.

'Somthing Bad Happend'
I get this error a lot if I've gotten far in a map. Once you get this you can just save on a new file name, After about 5 saves on this new file I somtimes get the error again. It's extremely annoying and one of SCMDraft 2's biggest flaws everyone deals with.

That shouldn't happen, in your settings, maybe you need to set your backup count higher.
A lot of the time when SCM Draft gives you a string error, just ignore it, it's just a bug with SCM Draft, and usually won't cause any damage, but in your case..

Well the issue about the entire back-up getting corrupt was because SCM Draft basically crashed WHILE I was saving. Draft then tried to add the file to the back-up database and now the entire database file is worthless. I know that a previous good version of my map is in there, yet it's unreadable due to the encompassing file containing one flaw. I still have the back-up file, but believe me, I've asked around a lot. There seems to be no way to get the good data out of there.
As is turns out the string error I got did cause damage, now the map has reverted back to talking about a string error whenever I add a location, I guess I'm going to have to return to a version from 5 days ago...
