That's a problem I'm facing right now at university.

BTW, tetris was the best game on my Ti Voyage.
That's the dumbest thing I've ever heard. When would you not have a calculator?
Calculus. Calculators were banned on my brother's calc final and midterm.

That sucks bull balls. I RELY on my calc. If you learn better that way, then why not use it? Nobody's is gonna hire someone for job and be like I want to know the 13 sqrt of this number and you cant use a calculator. haha.

Bleh. Stupid multiquote has exploded... These are way out of order.

Really?? You like Casio? I'm partial to TI but that might only be because i know how to use it. I made a text based rpg that was really mediocre, a bunch of formulas and stuff for chem and math, and a couple cannon and snake games, but nothing too intense. I even had help on the cannon and snake games so idk if I can count them as my own lol. As of know i'm working on a multi variable text cipher/decipher program, but progress is slow lol. But you have to do it on the computer if you want them to run well. Ever play Block Dude for ti83? That game is mah favorite.
Block dude is horribly easy... >< I've beaten it many times over. I wrote a snake game in my Algebra II class last year in one period.. :P

Quote from name:Killer_Kow
I don't have enough time in my class to write any more than like, 10 lines of code :( We actually do stuff in our math class.
So do we, but it is horribly easy and slow so it takes like 5 minutes to do anything and I then have 80 minutes free.

Quote from DT_Battlekruser
I hate programming on TIs. I started to write an IDE once, but I gave up when I got sick of trying to parse user input. I did make a functioning text editor though :P (This is in Java, not on my calc.)
Programming in BASIC is awful once you do more advanced programming. So I took up ASM. ASM is fun. :D It is incredibly simple.. which makes it incredibly difficult.

Quote from dumbducky
I've never seen a non-TI graphing calculator. It's not like TI is all that much hard to use.

Is there any difference between a TI-83 and TI-84 other than more memory?
Ti-83 has no flash ROM; Ti-83+ has flash ROM; Ti-83+SE has faster proc. and more ROM,; Ti-84+ has faster proc. again (I think), more ROM, and mini-USB connector; and Ti-84+SE has yet more ROM. That's all I remember (or think I remember) off the top of my head.

Just you all wait for my RPG I'm working on. :shifty: I've been slowly working on the engine... don't expect much soon, though. Written in pure ASM. :D No TI-BASIC crap clogging it up all over. I have most of the graphical engine done so far... Working next on creating user control and interaction. So far the binary is 3395B. I may have to redo a lot of it as my goal is to make it functional on a TI-83+ (since that is all I have. >.>)
A friend of mine is helping with the graphics and character design and his work is pure epic, so I have high expectations on quality. :D

I also found out recently that my calculator is a broken model... The display lags so the screen comes out messed up. I can't use MirageOS or any of the games that use it.

Casio's interface is uch more intuitive. It is also much cheaper for the some thing. I do, however, now use a TI-84+ Silver Edition (borrow as much shit as you can from your friends that are about to move). The only thing different about silver is the programs that come preinstalled.

I always hated the ti-83 and ti-84 series because b4 the Ti I used Casio fx-115es (which is a scientific calculators and is still better than ti 83/84) Only the ti-89 and above seemed to be better than Casio fx-115es.
The casio fx9860G is better than ti83/84 but cannot do much with matrix so it is like a ti-82 or 86
Casio>ti in scientific calculators
Ti89>casio in graphing calculators

how do you program in anything other than the calculator's basic?

ASM - is that the programming language that makes the apps? (that sounds kool! :D)

http://www.omnimaga.org/index.php?topic=14.msg128#msg128 - can you do those kinds of things with ASM farty?

You type up a ton of crap and compile it. You can type it onto the calculator in hex or use a program to convert it to a .8xp file (what TI-connect uses for 83p programs.)

Whee! Spam! 1 2 3 4 5
I should release some more of the programs I've made ... So far I've only released SysFlags.

Do you know of any ..."how to" for this method of calculator programming? i would very much enjoy learning asm, and compiling it to make graphing calculator apps.... programs.. w/e (Sorry for being the noob burden)

I don't know how to compile apps because they are in a wierd hex format...
ASM is actually extremely simple... It's just the simplicity of it makes doing a task difficult. :P

You can find stuff here...
http://www.ticalc.org/basics/calculators/ti-83plus.html#9

This has really nice resources (and tutorials, too):
http://dragonfire.unitedti.org/asmin28/

Just remember TI's warning:
"Because an assembly language program has greater control over the calculator, if your assembly language program has error(s), it may cause your calculator to reset and lose all data, programs, and applications stored in memory."
I've never had a reset bad enough to clear the applications ... but it still isn't impossable. :P

My point was that no employer is going to deprive you of a calculator. Only idiotic teachers/tests who absolutely have to prevent any sort of cheating whatsoever do that.

Who programs on ti-83 calculators for fun? i made a text based rpg in my 1st block today. Does anyone know how to download the ti-83 OS onto a computer so you can use it at home? (i have a graphing calculator program... but i want a ti-83 program so i can play with its programming :D)

Here is an SDK for the TI-83 right HERE
You can get alot of help HERE from tutorials, they have lots of stuff there.

You really don't need more than Notepad.

I do stuff and thingies... Try widening and reducing the number of small nooks and crannies to correct the problem.

That's true. But I'm still not allowed to use any calculator in math. In other subjects I should be allowed to use a calculator that is less powerful than a Ti Voyage or 83 or 84. I'm not allowed to create graphs with it or to write programs, solving functions, ...

You could turn it into a 6-function calculator with an excessive amount of useless buttons.

Grand Moderator of the Games Forum

I borrowed my friend's TI-## the year we needed it for our math class, as he finished math the previous year. I didn't bother learning how to program anything during the time I had it, other than the stuff we needed to solve those stupid math problems (which we always added funny error messages for when you did something wrong). However I did push a lot of random buttons and found lots of funny programs. The graduate-owl-thingy was my favorite picture on it :P
The most advanced thing I managed to do on it, was to make a spiral, even though I did follow the recipe in the textbook

But to be honest, if you need a calculator like that to solve something, it's not worth/necessary for an ordinary person to know how to do it.
